Meta cancels Quest Pro, stops development of Quest Pro 2 | ZDNET
  • Apple will do the same I’m sure after they release their Vision Pro headset. People still aren’t totally sold on VR so there will need to be a race to the bottom before we can start climbing back up to high end headsets.

Here's what I like from Lemmy so far and hope to see continue and retained for years to come
  • From my perspective, the trans movement is teaching people to hate who they truly are and change themselves.

A message of true love would be to love who you truly are, which is how you were born.

Mutilating your body is the opposite of love.

Trans is hate, packaged up and gift-wrapped with false love on the outside. It’s the real reason why their suicide rates are so high

  • I fail to see any hate. I think there’s just a big push from the left framing conservative views as hateful.

There’s hate on both sides. Both sides only focus on the hate for the opposing side

    “Are you sure about that?”
  • They probably were. Look at literally everyone on this site seeing republicans as sub-human. I can guarantee they would enslave them if they could and not feel bad about it

Propaganda can make good people believe horrible things

  • This is very logical OP, idk what’s wrong with those people who downvoted you.

They must not have liked being told to try to question their bias

  • There doesn’t seem to be any karma farming which is nice, but it’s still a liberal echo chamber similar to Reddit.

You think there’s nice discussion until people sniff conservative opinions and then they turn right back into hateful internet goblins

*How to Spot Misinformation And Propaganda
  • There are a few problems with this. One, is choosing a reliable source. How do you genuinely know what is reliable or not? Most people will assume “I agree with this” = reliable source. Finding multiple news agencies saying the same thing also does not necessarily equal being reliable, as there can be multiple biased sources that are all misinformation.

Also, fact checkers, all heavily lean towards liberal views. Something to avoid if you’re looking for a true unbiased opinion. They typically dig harder into republicans and are much softer on democrats. Especially the sites you linked, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were all owned or funded by the DNC.

There’s a major issue with people hanging out in echo chambers and not challenging their beliefs. Your best bet is to find biased info on one side of the spectrum, and the other, and compare the two.

  • If Lemmy were to become a serious major threat to giant cash-cows like Reddit, it would be in their best interest to de-stabilize the communities here. I think it’s best that we think of ways Lemmy could be taken advantage of, so we can best prepare ourselves for potentially what could come.

Reddit could attract users back by doing a 1-2-punch.

    1. Swarm communities with bots/potentially extremist or hateful content

    2. Pay news agencies to run stories on the issues with sites like Lemmy and the freedom of the Fediverse

Punch: Offer a safe haven from the chaos, while also promoting that you can now make money with your posts, offer a former apology. Ride the “attention wave” to bring users back in

How could we possibly prevent something like this from happening? Or what are some other methods that could potentially be used?
