It’s been the hottest summer on record, European officials say
  • We're having a fucking heatwave in Brazil. It's winter. It hasn't rained in over 130 days. The weather is "desertic" and there is this fog going on from all the fires.

Brazil Blocks X After Musk Ignores Court Orders
  • This whole thing started because right wing accounts were spreading misinformation and Moraes demanded they were taken down. Musk didn't comply and removed Twitter's legal representative here in order to not suffer the consequences.

While I think it's fair for Twitter to be taken down for that specific reason, the judge is also taking all vpn off google and apple which is incredibly dumb and a dangerous precedent. Lots of people use vpn to work or study. It's like banning a knife because it has the ability to hurt people. I hope they contest this one part at least.

Edit: they just went back on the decision to remove vpn, so it's all good. Hooray.

Brazilian judge suspends X platform after it refuses to name a legal representative
  • He's taking all vpn off Google and apple too. This is a terrible, dangerous and dumb decision despite how much I dislike Twitter and musk.

Edit: they just went back on the decision to remove vpn, so it's all good. Hooray.

    Oldie but a goldie
  • I had to present this paper for a fluid mechanics class during COVID and yes, the particles do spread. The radius of contamination was almost 1,5m.

Shared bathrooms in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or assisted living facilities are used by patients who might be infected, thus making them a likely source of indoor cross-contamination. The pathogen-spreading potential of toilet flushes was investigated in toilets seeded with microorganisms that were later recovered from surfaces and in the air after flushing. The organisms in the bowl could not be fully cleared even after repeated flushing, and the droplets produced by flushing harbored the organisms that were used for seeding, which remained airborne and viable.

Recently, Johnson et al. (2013a) investigated different toilet designs and found that up to 145,000 sampled particles can be produced per flush.

Analysis of more recent data revealed that a large number of droplet emissions are not visible to the naked eye (d < 100 µm) (Figure 6b). These emissions account for more than 6 mL and can remain suspended in the air for a long time compared to the larger visible drops (with diameters up to 6 mm) that end up on surfaces.

The larger visible drops settle on surfaces within milliseconds, whereas the smaller, invisible drops are advected by local airflow (on the order of a few centimeters per second). Droplets settling on surfaces can be tackled in accordance with surface decontamination procedures of local infection control protocols. However, no system or protocol currently addresses air contamination. Furthermore, usual cleaning solutions not effective in neutralizing the most resistant pathogens, such as the spores of C. difficile, may even contribute to their dissemination by effectively lowering the surface tension, for example, down to 30 mN/m, compared to water at 72 mN/m, increasing the local Weber number and thus promoting fragmentation into either more or smaller droplets, depending on the fragmentation mechanism.

X says it is closing operations in Brazil due to judge's content orders
  • Earlier this year, Moraes ordered X to block certain accounts, as he investigates so-called “digital militias” that have been accused of spreading fake news and hate messages during the government of far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro.

These people are the equivalent of Trump's cult followers, although I'm not on Twitter myself I am sure they are spreading fake news and any fight against it is a win in my point of view. I myself see these Bolsonaro lovers all the time and it's crazy how they are brainwashed. I know plenty of people who didn't take the COVID vaccine because of him.

What’s a game you can 100% without hating by the end?
  • I thought I would never beat the pantheons... Until I did. On both PC and PlayStation. As long as you enjoy it, I guess it's just practice.

FDA wants to cut sodium in packaged and processed foods by about 20%
  • I've been raising the cocoa % on the chocolates I buy and I'm on 80% now. I had a regular bar recently that was gifted to me and I could barely take a bite because it was so excessively sugary. Unfortunately I can't go any higher than 80% as it is not sold here (expensive imports only) but I definitely would if I could, and honestly I would recommend anyone to try this starting at 40%.

    Sorry hun
  • I wish my parents did this. I have such a mental block on cursing that I can't bring myself to say it out loud, even though I'm thinking about it and it's the perfect choice of words for the moment. I also feel socially left out by people around me because of that, as in they can be themselves and I have to restrain myself.

Funny enough this is only in my native language. Since I grew up watching YouTube videos from english speaking people that cursed a lot, that feels very comfortable and natural.

The other day I was rewatching some adventure time on hbo max and saw they were censoring the word idiot. I'm pretty sure they were censoring a bunch of other cartoons that weren't censored back in the day. That pissed me off so much, they are just limiting our vocabulary more and more for words that have a somewhat negative connotation.
