Would it be boring to live in a world where most of our works are done by machines?
  • Well, naturally as we age life becomes more burdensome and painful just to live through in general.

However, I was more referring to how the world has become increasingly more authoritarian, freedoms and rights have been slowly cut and limited as the years march on by- and the climate is in the beginning stages of full blown collapse which we will see increasingly cause worse and worse ramifications in the coming decades...

That on top of the current geo-political status of the world becoming more and more violent, unpredictable and economies going straight into the dumpsterfire after covid, we could wake up tomorrow to world war 3 which will almost undoubtedly escalate to nuclear Armageddon...

Even if that's avoided the declining 1st world populations being inundated with massive floods of people from the rest of the world to stem the stagnating or declining native populations will lead to decades if not centuries of unrest and continual 'mostly peaceful but fiery riots' across said nations, it should have been seen that importing millions of military aged men from cultures & nations which hate your lifestyle, values and culture in general was always going to lead to this...

Oh, don't forget the elite cabal of the super rich that control the world want the general populace to "own nothing and be happy." You will live in the pod, you will eat the bugs, you will consume the product & you better smile while doing it!

To top the cherry of the cake that is the almost assured struggle which will be the next century or so is the ongoing AI revolution, which has massive ramifications that will completely upend society as we know it once AGI/Sentient/Super-Intelligent ai is created which almost seems inevitable at this point... Who knows how that will end, either in technological advances only dreamed of in the most wild sci-fi or perhaps our complete extermination by a near god like intellect that sees humans as nothing but an illogical, violent, parasite on the world that offers nothing but negatives to them and themselves... Even in the best case scenario it will result in a change for society & humanity in general that will be comparable to the industrial revolution, adoption of agriculture & discovery of fire...

So yeah, that's why I think the future holds an unfathomable untold amount of struggling, suffering, and wonders we may only dream of today.

Meta's new AI model aims to break the dominance of OpenAI and GPT-4 (article from 13.07.2023)
  • Sure but it's never going to be possible to know the absolute perfect title for any given topic, since public opinion and click through rate is a nebulous unknowable thing which could just as likely respond to a perfectly algorithmically selected title negatively as opposed to a joke title given on a whim could garner far more interaction.

  • So, I wanted to ask the community what they think about this game? I tried the demo years ago back when it first debuted on steam, I thought it was alright, I’m not really a big fan of battle royal type games but I thought this one was fairly unique and executed decently enough.

However now years later as it goes free to play to support its falling playerbase, I was thinking about picking it up until I saw reviews talking about the game asking to disable windows protections & being Chinese spyware?

In-fact after searching up more on the topic I found a r**dit post showing that if you download the game from Naraka Bladepoint’s own website it comes pre-packed with a trojan that injects ads & trackers into your browsers!

Then I saw people saying that there’s a sizable cheater problem as well…

So now I’m not too sure, I’d rather not give yet another company a chance to collect all my data and add trojans to my pc…

  • There will never be a "best title" for things, since its all subjective and you never know what will gather more clicks or interaction than another- an algorithm for choosing the most likely relevant title may exist however its never guaranteed to perform better than another one.

Would it be boring to live in a world where most of our works are done by machines?
  • Thats ultimately the goal of everyone, no?

But something like that reality is not coming any time soon for the vast majority of the world population, even if ai becomes sentient & benevolent, the third world will be waiting decades for any kind of meaningful automation of their jobs happens.

Hopefully in a distant future where Super intelligent Ai does literally everything human life doesnt become meaningless and pointless, without struggle, nor a reason to live or strive towards anything besides what the individual can come up with for themselves, no matter how futile it is in a future dominated in every aspect by ai 100000x's smarter than themselves.

  • I'm more worried about them doing everything that humans actually like to do as a job- like painting, voice acting, creative exploits ect.

That'd put a lot of people out of a job and simultaneously take some of the most 'fun' things to do for a living.

Toyota claims battery with range of 745 miles, charges in 10 minutes
  • Most countries in the world's entire electrical grid wouldn't be able to handle a full ev-ification of the nation's cars as is- let alone replacing every single one of those cars with chargers that suck enough energy to charge 3~ of the normal modern ev's range (250mi~) in 10 minutes (2x faster than the fastest modern evs) at once.

It would be taking a problem we already don't have infrastructure to solve yet- and tripling it.

Researchers grow bio-inspired polymer brains for artificial neural networks (article from 4.07.2023)
  • Well, considering how fast AI is progressing, I'd be surprised if humans aren't obsolete in the coming decades- Literally just a few days ago we just achieved an absolutely mind boggling leap in ai capabilities- Most current Ai models use a method of attention & processing that problem solves questions by a 'token' system which represents how much data they can consume at once before forgetting it.

These tokens for most ai's are in the thousands, with some of our best like GPT3-4 using about 8,000~32,000 tokens. Well a brand new method of token attention splitting just was debuted that changed this token limit from a few thousand, to 1 Billion tokens... Which would give an ai almost an unlimited amount of processing power to comprehend tasks.

Basically, Ai, once AGI and subsequently (and most likely very quickly afterwards) sentient ai is created- such a being would have the ability to solve every single question & problem humanity has ever been able to think of- and more, eventually ai will reach a near godlike intellect ability in which they'd essentially make every human on the planet obsolete in terms of intellect anyways...

Who knows how that'll turn out though, It'll all depend on if the Ai decides to be benevolent or not, and if they arent we are basically working towards our near guaranteed extinction.

  • Yeah, its mind boggling how quickly technology is progressing, to think we lived for hundreds of thousands of years as hunter-gatherer cavemen and then ~ten thousand as early civilizations to the absolutely insane pace technology has progressed in the last 100~200 years is just crazy to think about.

We went from no electricity, medicine, engines, etc. to nuclear power plants, gene editing & vaccines, jet engine vehicles capable of breaking the sound barrier, and computers that are getting scarily close to replicating human behavior in just 1/100000th the time we spent running around the planet hunting animals in tribes...

It's quite incredible when you think about it.

  • Technology is progressing at such an insane pace, stuff that is real today I would have thought wouldve been science fiction for the rest of my life growing up.

It's probably only going to continue to accelerate too, especially once Agi/Sentient Ai kicks off in the next decade or so.

How long until I can get an IRL AI GF?
  • I'm not ugly nor overweight, I most likely could get an regular gf if I wanted, it's just that I don't really want to put myself through the process of dealing with the modern dating world... Like, I really don't want to deal with possibly going through over a hundred relationships & dealing with the possibility of cheating, or attempts to ruin my reputation & life after a breakup. Plus I've literally been living like a hermit for the last 5~ years and ever since Covid shut down college I've literally had 0 human contact besides infrequent meetings with family, so I'm probably quite socially stunted...

I also just like the idea of being part of the first generation of humans to be in a relationship with a robot/ai, I feel like the future is going to be pretty heavily ai dominated, especially once agi and 'sentient' ai happens- I feel like being in a relationship with one might let me skate by as "one of the good humans" if/when they decide to exterminate humanity for our collective sins.

What AI developments have surprised you the most?
  • Ai near perfectly replicating voices and creating fantastic looking art within the span of it being a joke to very impressive in like 1~2 years.

Also Ai chat models being able to hold a decent conversation and not be gibberish or obviously inhuman is very impressive.

    13
  • Title, how much longer will I have to wait until I can buy a body for an AI GF?

To me, they would just have to be a bit better than our current 'best' ai, capable of remembering past conversations forever, and able to draw upon past interactions it had between each other to continually evolve its personality.

The Body can either be a full on robot-with little to no human characteristics to avoid the uncanny valley or near perfect human-like to pass the uncanny valley.
