There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple.
  • So the most comparable console there is $456, and this is $700.

    That is bad.

The PS5 Pro barely costs more to produce.

$700 is bad. $913 is awful.

Just because the PS3, a console universally panned as being way too expensive, was similar, doesn't mean PS5 Pro pricing is alright.

  • No, but it's been getting stronger relative to the dollar consistently over the past 2 years. But we aren't seeing that in prices.

I'm not expecting it to be like ~2007 time where £1 was $2.

But things should definitely be better than it was 2 years ago, relative to USD pricing.

  • The PS5 Pro pricing is testing the waters for PS6 pricing. If they can't sell well, they can easily drop prices (the PS5 Pro barely costs more than the PS5 to produce). They're just gathering data on what people will accept.

Doing that with the PS6 is too risky. Sony botched the launch of the PS3 and it backfired on them hard letting MS get a foothold with the 360. MS then did the same with the XBone launch and the PS4 ran away with it.

If people signal to Sony now that the PS5 Pro is way too much (it's £700/$913 here ffs), then the PS6 will be cheaper. Don't accept their greed.

  • If you think $700 is bad, it's £700 in the UK... which is $913. 🤢

    Also:

    • median household income, UK (2022): £32,400 ($42,265)

    • median household income, USA (2022): $74,580

A PS5 Pro is 26% of the typical UK household monthly income.

A PS5 Pro is 11% of the typical US household monthly income.

The US pricing is bad. The UK pricing is absolutely insane.

The OLED Deck starts at £479. Still a lot but not as egregious. The LCD Deck is currently £262 ($344), which is pretty great.

    Missle, er, Proton Torpedo Command
  • Janeway literally tortured Paris in this episode.

Solitary confinement for 30 days, given deliberately bland food, ordered security personnel not to talk to him, given nothing to stimulate him (such as books), in a tiny cell that he couldn't leave.

Literally illegal in pretty much all of the developed world, and definitely comes under cruel and unusual punishment as well as psychological torture, as outlined in the Human Rights Act.

It was a completely over-the-top and callous punishment.

    LCD Steam Decks on sale. 64GB LCD (15% off - $296.65) and 512GB LCD (25% off - $336.75)
  • Based on my pricing...

LCD Deck: starting at £262 ($344)

OLED Deck: starting at £479 ($630)

It's certainly better. But by enough to justify an 83% higher price? You may as well be saying why buy a MX-5/Miata when a Porsche Boxster 718 is better.

Worst to best: All the major Android skins, ranked
  • I disagree with this order. Specifically, I prefer the Sony skin over my current Pixel 7's skin (which imo while being pretty great overall is missing some basic features that OneUI and SonyUI have had for a long time).

Looking at the article, their only issue with it is that the support is only 4 years, while Google offers 7.

What? Not saying it's not valid (we all want longer software support!), but wtf does length of software support have to do with rating the UX? They are completely separate things.

Newey: British F1 TV coverage caused ‘demonisation’ of Verstappen/Vettel
  • Huh? If anything Sky has been overly joyous over Max. Seriously, look at even the moment Max won the WDC in 2021, Crofty was shouting with excitement, despite everyone knowing what Masi did was bullshit.

They had Horner in interviews far more than any TP, it felt like every 15 minutes! That's died down a bit since the allegations against him, though.

Sky definitely talk about British drivers more (duh, they're the British broadcast), but they've never seemed mean to non-british drivers.

Anybody who thinks sky has an awful bias clearly hasn't watched Dutch or German F1 coverage. Shit, Viggo sports was literally sponsored by Max Verstappen for a while. Think about that for a moment. Sports coverage, sponsored by an athlete from that sport!

I think this is mostly a case of someone thinking the world is against him/his camp, because he isn't privy to the hate that also gets spewed to others.

  • news.sky.com Keir Starmer gives go-ahead for British missiles to be used in strikes against targets inside Russia

The decision over the use of Storm Shadow missiles, which has been welcomed by Ukraine, represents a hawkish shift in policy from the stance taken by the former Conservative government.

This appears to be a move to counter the UMPK gliding bombs Russia has started using recently to great effect against Ukraine.

Russia can launch these from Russian soil, safe from Ukrainian fire. These missiles will allow Ukraine to strike grounded planes and weapons stockpiles in Russia.

It's an interesting move, considering the US has been telling Ukraine not to use any western long-range weapons against Russia directly.
