Whenever I'm speaking with others about politics I'm reminded how fucking dumb half our populace is. It's not even something from the past 100 years, even during the Roman times populism was a thing.

If anything you'd think that with our current educational system people would be smarter but sadly the opposite is true.

Peoe vote for parties just because they hate foreigners here. Sometimes I ask them, "did you know they wanted to increase taxes on X and decrease taxes for the rich"? And then you get all sorts of insults slinged at you. Blue collar workers with minimum wage calling me a "leftie" because I care about wanting decent health care and social wellbeing. People with minimum wage voting for parties that want to create more hardship for them and increase wellbeing and power for billionaires.

Mind you, I'm not even from the US, populism and fascism is a problem everywhere. You'd think people would have learned something from 1939 - 1945. You'd think we'd cooperate for the wellbeing as a species and try to explore things to make our life on earth better (or even trying to reach into space).

But nope here we are, hating on minorities. Helping billionaires getting more power. Destroying the wellbeing we have enjoyed for a couple of decades.

You'd think people would want something different like a non proprietary OS that spies on your every daily aspect of your life seeing the recent tensions in the word.

But nah let's all keep using Facebook, MS, Google and act all surprised pikachu face when 1984 finally happens.

I've been wanting a phone with alternate OS for ages now but it simply isn't there. Guess ill just have to stick to grapheneos for now.

If blackberry manages to come back without using android I might consider them. It its just going to be another shitty android phone with a blackberry skin on it then I'll pass. Probably a fat chance anyway since no one will buy a phone that doesn't have android or iOS.

i switched to Linux Mint as well. I really don't want to use any big tech garbage anymore. They will lure you in with a cheap offer and then when everyone is aboard it's time to raise prices and start the enshittification.

Pdf will always look the same though. A doc/docx file can look wildly different depending on the editor you are using.

As someone from the EU. I think the US is truly fucked. Every single government organ is focusing on removing any USA dependency going from big tech to parts and resources etc. And we're not the only country doing it. The military has already decided to buy 0 new USA equipment.

I've decided I'm not using websites that block mullvad anymore. I'm talking about a hard block like reddit does and not a captcha (captcha is fine by me).

If they're doing that much trouble to prevent me from using a VPN they must me doing some pretty shady shit with my data.

I will not move to another VPN because of all VPNs I feel Mullvad respects my privacy most.

A phone number can be traced back to a person. If there is ever a hack or backdoor it can be traced. There are plenty of alternatives that are open source and don't require any kind of identifier.

It's a stupid way of defining politics. If you ask a random person what being left means it can vary from anything between hugging a tree or wanting good health care.

By calling yourself "green" or "social" you are immediately putting a label on yourself and a lot of people won't vote for you because they're too dumb or lazy to actually read into what a party is about. I saw an article here on lemmy that pointed out some moron that voted for Trump in hopes he would save his farm, if he would have read into politics he would have known that Trump was the worst possible choice but here we are...

I'm from Europe and I see the same shit happening here. Call yourself green or left and people will scoff at you.

If there is anything the current "left" parties absolutely suck at its marketing. Call yourself the freedom party or whatever but stop using idiotic terminology that people can't relate to. Almosr no one will vote for the "environment party".

I hate the extremist conservative parties here but i have to give them credit for being able to market their party in such a way that people are literally voting on them AGAINST their own best interests.

It's pretty sad a lot of people are dumb and racist.

They don't hate immigrants, they just hate assholes. And being an asshole is not related to where you're from. Shitty right wing politicians just want to make everyone believe it's immigrants.
