This is what Canada will look like in 20 years – are we ready for an aging population?
  • I can't wait for people who don't have enough to fund the lavish lifestyles of people who spent their entire lives with too much because it's not their fault we didn't pull up our boot straps.

No more drunk driving? US to force carmakers to adopt life-saving tech by 2024
  • Some sentences for driving under the influence require those convicted to install a breathalyzer in their cars that prevent them from starting the vehicle if alcohol is detected, though regulators said it’s unlikely future ubiquitous technology would be as intrusive as requiring a puff every time.

So instead they want to install cameras to continuously monitor the driver...

    Nope still don't get it
  • Some do. One of the biggest wonders of my life has been growing up and learning how many women out there are actually into being choked, tied up, degraded and all other variety of sexual kinks.

  • This dude was just a crack head whose father happened to own a rig company.

He couldn't write his own name, basic math skills was a luxury he didn't enjoy, but he was a genius when it came to fixing diesel engines and hydraulics.

    Truly an enigma amoung men.

  • You joke, but some people are actually that dumb.

I used to work in the oilfield, first day on a new rig with a new company. We were swabbing (pulling fluid samples, super laid back work) and had 2 guys on, 2 guys off.

Sitting in the doghouse our driller yells over to the rig asking what time it is, I check the clock and yell back "About twenty to four" dude puts his hands on his hips like Karen would and starts to glare at me. My push leans out the window and yelled "Two Four Zero" blew my fucking mind.

Few days later he was dropping people off and we were at a new site so he changed pick up time to quarter to six. But in his mind that meant 25 minutes before 6, or 5:35. Needless to say he got there and I wasn't ready, which as a new roughneck on a crew is a cardinal sin.

Got in the truck and we drove about a block and I apologized and said I wasn't expecting him so soon. Dude pulled over looked over his shoulder at me and said "How quarters in a dollar, retard?". I replied "Four?" "Wrong twenty five!"

Needless to say that job didn't last long for me.

Teen girls are being victimized by deepfake nudes. One family is pushing for more protections
  • First of all I didn't say any of things you're inferring from the quote you posted.

But yes, I think sexually exploitative imagery of children is just as vile and disgusting as behavior that directly harms children and very indicative of someone who may attempt to harm a child in the future.

  • Nah dude, I am perfectly cool with animated depictions of child sexual exploitation being in the same category as regualr child exploitation regardless of the fact that she's actually a 10,000 old midget elf or whatever paper thin explanation they provide not to be considered paedos.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 Adds Metro System, On-Person Radio, Car Races, and Much More
  • Yup, important to note that "quick hacks" don't exist in the tspletop game though. Netrunning is entirely based around infiltrating net architectures that require "entry" through an access point. And the focus is entirely on programs and daemons that exist entirely in cyberspace. You can't just look at a security camera and shit it off, you can't reboot optics or really do anything offensive to NPCs like you can in the video game.

There is a new supplement coming based off of CP2077 and it this is one of the biggest requested features.

  • In the tabletop game which takes place in 2040 there is an option for an internal agent that is part of your neuralware suite and an upgrade for your cybereyes to add a heads up display.

Presumably 30+ years later the tech should still be available if not improved on.

Very few ways to better learn why something is right than far reaching consequences for doing it wrong.

The fact that drug tests are normalized for jobs is fucking insane
  • I work in a manufacturing facility, so very much a safety sensitive environment.

We are required to be drug tested as part of a pre-employment screening and potentially after incidents. The cool thing is it is part of our collective bargaining agreement that they are not allowed to screen for THC with a urine sample because of how invasive it is.

Mouth swabs are more expensive, but also only screen for THC within 24 hours. I'm sure that number is up for debate as well, but it is a far cry from the 6-8 weeks you can potentially test positive for with a urine screening.
