Anybody listen to Christian metal? (Demon Hunter, Disciple, Fit For A King, For Today, Those Who Fear, etc.)
  • I used to, really enjoyed Demon Hunter, Seventh Avenue and a few other, but at some point I got bored of it and don't listen to it anymore unless it appears in my shuffle.

Civ 7 will potentially launch with controversial Denuvo, according to Steam's back end
  • For the mods at least, the dev interview at PAX clearly had a moment when one guy said "the possibilities of combination with civilizations switching is going to be higher, especially with the modding community adding custom civs.

But since they said a huge part of the playerbase is console, I'm guessing mods won't be using the steam workshop but the launcher so that consoles can have mods...

As for Linux support yeah I would like to hope, maybe the stats of Civ6 on the steamdeck could push them to make it compatible but if they have denuvo I doubt it...

This company wants to sell you sunlight at night from space
  • The USSR (then Russia) did this in the 90s, first prototype was a 20m wide reflector. Second prototype failed and then interest and money went away. Originally it was meant to also test solar sails feasibility.

If you have Nebula, Mustard did a 10mn documentary on it.

  • Also noted :

    • Navigable rivers
    • terrain has cliffs
    • armies seems to be condensed, with generals leading them. Fighting looks to be constant in some way? (or that's just the render for the trailer)
    • cities seem to expand much more
    • the leaders looks to have some stats which can be improved

What are some old or new Steam alternatives to StarCraft 1 & 2?
  • I still enjoy a game of Planetary Annihilation every other time, might not float your boat if you're looking for a much more classic RTS. But smashing moons to the enemy's base has never felt so awesome.

    Thanks, Apple
  • Can they add an option to show roads with more twist for us riding a motorbike? I'd love to road trip without having to look too closely at the map for nice roads.

Post-YouTube: Why Aren't We Embracing IPFS?
  • I mean, classic torrenting has no issue with user-friendliness, look at Popcorn-Time. It's all about the app front-end, proper API to update trackers, and UX. Hell, you could enforce some balance or seed/leech by having a reward system for heavy seeders.

Note that I never used peertube, so it might just be exactly that...

Sony’s PSVR 2 PC adapter launches in August
  • No eye-tracking, but Foveated rendering on compatible games... I wonder if that's criptics for "we have an API but we won't share it and keep it for our own games".

Well that or the PSVR2 system actually has a low quality frame generated, and the headset adds details with AI on the viewed zone... 🤔

Young Canadians are being priced out of home ownership and even parenthood. Why on earth would mandatory national service make them love their country more?
  • Switzerland does have a mandatory service for all men, and doesn't have belligerent neighbours... But the Swiss army is still very much stuck in the cold war mindset of being afraid of an invasion. Last time there was a vote, the people refused to abolish the militia system.

Tbh I don't think military service is a problem as long as it's only used for defence and is properly setup, instead of have nutjobs running the small professional army and wanting war because they trained their whole life for it...

Bonjour Switzerland (2023, dir Peter Luisi)
  • Damn, this looks pretty fun actually.

For those that didn't see it, Switzerland has a pearl in their movie industry called "Mad Heidi", if you enjoyed Iron Sky it's very much the same type.

What is this SMT component with a little window, labeled A247L? (solved!)
  • Yup looking at the components around and the layout, it does look like a quartz crystal, especially considering it's right next to the microcontroller, and the 2 beige components above are the matching capacitors.

But yeah I've never seen a package with an open window. Maybe it's an ultra high precision that has been tuned with lasers (usually done for patch antennas).
