It's a 'massive student debt strike' activist says, as millions of borrowers still aren't making payments
  • Politics aside, as someone who defaulted on student loans years ago, don’t do that. It is a decision that will follow you for a ridiculously long time with little recourse.

Japan's Nippon Steel to acquire U.S. Steel for $14.9 billion
  • This news broke a few days ago and promptly received broad bipartisan backlash. It doesn’t seem clear if this buyout will be tolerated on national security grounds.

SteamOS will be coming to other handhelds before you can install it on your PC 'because right now, it's very, very tuned for Steam Deck'
  • I’ve been thinking about this for some time, but rather smartphones as the form factor. It aligns with the trend of converging technologies, where devices are becoming more multifunctional, and users are seeking more flexibility and efficiency from their gadgets. It’s a future-forward vision that I believe will redefine personal computing.

At least uBlock Origin is always up-to-date now
  • YouTube ads are distinguishable at the dns level for now at least. For the optimal setup I recommend docker-compose on a raspi with watchtower. This setup will automatically keep everything up to date but requires a little docker knowledge. Here’s some documentation:

Mexican president urges end to 'irrational' Ukraine war, wants Russia at peace talks
  • NATO’s role is complex, but blaming it solely for Russia’s actions oversimplifies a multifaceted issue. Don’t ignore Russia’s own choices and aggression.

17-year-old U.S. national team racer Magnus White killed by driver in Colorado - Canadian Cycling Magazine
  • It’s indeed a tragic situation. The deaths in Colorado might be related to the fact that the area is a popular training location for cyclists, particularly because of the high elevation, which can be beneficial for training the body to perform under lower oxygen conditions. This could lead to a higher number of cyclists on the roads, and subsequently, a greater risk of accidents.

Revoking the SSH Keys of a Friend Sucks
  • Im sorry that this happened to you. It sucks to learn that someone isn’t who you thought they are after you trust them.

I’m a network engineer by trade and a Linux enthusiast, and happily apply for the position 😊

I hope that one day there will be a larger community of network engineers on Lemmy, however it seems that most did not make the migration off of that old site.

French minister says decoupling from China unrealistic
  • I think it’s even simpler than that. China/SEA offered better profits for western businesses, who had no problem with squandering their nations wealth on sweat shops in a far away land. Politicians stand idly by while it happens as long as their paychecks arrive on time.

    The fake libertarian starterpack
  • Libertarianism isn’t a monolithic ideology, and opinions vary widely among libertarians. Furthermore, one who identifies as libertarian doesn’t inherently reject all utilitarian or communitarian values. Some may argue against seatbelt laws and drivers’ licenses on the basis of personal freedom and responsibility, while others might see the value in certain regulations that protect public safety. What unites libertarians is a belief in limiting government intervention to essential functions, but defining those ‘essential functions’ can differ greatly among individuals within the libertarian community. Libertarians often share common ground with leftists on social values, differing significantly from mainstream Republican politicians.
