I got SWAT'ed and handcuffed live while Linux development streaming!
  • It's not technically an arrest. In a high-stakes call, the police will typically detain everybody until they can figure out what's going on. That means potential victims as well as potential attackers. It's a safety measure.

Non-vegan admins wanting to interfere with c/vegan once again
  • Just a thought... How likely are you to grow the community when six of the top 10 active posts right now are in some way complaints about Lemmy? In other words, is this a pro-vegan community or is this an anti-Lemmy community?

For the record, I am perfectly happy to get my vegan content elsewhere- ban away.

  • This concept is just as dangerous as the right wing claiming LHC will open black holes. There's an implication here that just as soon as LHC was turned on it suddenly gathered information about every unknown Force, particle, and energy in the universe.

The Large hadron collider took 4 years to confirm the higgs boson; as of today it is only on its third data collection run. LHC is hardly a silver bullet.

The ones telling you that politics are about simple issues, or that our problems are easy to fix, are trying to use you
  • Since my votes for the presidential race are insulated from the vote count via electors in both the primary and national elections, I choose not to cast a vote for any loudmouth figurehead. Instead, I concentrate my energy on elections that affect my daily life; i.e. local and State races, including Senate and House of Representative races.

Take your "throwing away your vote" and stuff it in the nearest biological ballot box.

Are you excited about the upcoming Pixel 9, or have you given up on Google hardware?
  • Moved to pixel from HTC for the fast software updates. My next phone will likely be a pine phone or something similar; build quality on my last two pixels hasn't exactly been up to snuff.

Dungeons & Dragons will release its 2024 ruleset under a Creative Commons licence
  • That's what you got out of what I said?

No, it's not a crime to think visually. The operative word here is "think", to which I'll add "create" and "imagine" -- as opposed to expecting to have it handed to you. DISCLAIMER: (since it appears I'm going to have to anyway) -- no. You know what? You win. You know very well the kind of player I'm taking about, we had them even before the internet was commercialized. But if you want to take it personally, go right ahead.

  • Consider that opinions and judgment come from experience. It's very clear that you don't fall into the visually oriented, never cracked a book in their life that didn't have a grade attached to it, think movie visuals and video game visuals come from trees category. I'm sorry to have touched a nerve.

  • Digital players by and large obviously don't really care about the power grab WoC tried; fully three quarters of their imagination is being handed to them.

As a GM (formerly DM), content creator, and player as far back as AD&D, Hasbro and WotC are dead to me. They got paid for their work. They don't get to get paid for mine.

Why does every post I post here get down voted?
  • It is absolutely the way it works on Reddit. Go into any subreddit and say something factual but unpopular and watch what happens to the vote count.

Why does every post I post here get down voted?
  • Not understanding that upvotes are popularity driven might be the first error.

Make your posts, ask your questions, and move on. If people are interested it'll get traction. If they're not, expect apathy or downvotes. Just the way it works.

Biden supporters mostly back him in 2024 election because they oppose Trump, poll finds
  • This is the practical outcome in a system where voters are forced to vote for the least problematic candidate out of a pool of two preselected politicians. Nothing will change, administration after administration, until the people are allowed to select their own candidates and the media promotes more candidates than just the big two.

Side note: a lot of people right now will be knee-jerking and wanting to respond to me that that's what the primary system is for. Wilding v. DNC Services Corp and the Democratic primaries that caused it should disabuse anyone of that notion. And trust me, if the Democrats are dirty dealing so are the Republicans.
