It's official: consoles cost as much as gaming PCs now
  • You also have less ability to mod the games so you lose out on some of those features. For example doing is level FSR like the steam deck.

The US finally takes aim at truck bloat
  • I am probably going to break down and get truck again. Most uses people give are bs. A tarp and car will let you haul 90% of what you want. Chicken, dog, cat, pig feed. Car is fine. All of those animals too (though 300 lb pot belly pushes the limits).

If you stick it out the back of the trunk you can haul long lumber. You can load a surprising amount of rocks and concrete too.

You are probably loading and unloading appliances that often. Or furniture.

If it wasn't for the travel trailer I would suffer through it, but its the straw that broke the cammals back. Renting is just such a pain in the dick too. I would rather have a piece of junk desiel that I am tinkering with the schedule a day to pick up a truck to race around trying to use it before I run out time.

If I need to clear brush. I just want to go do it. If I need rocks I just to get a load. Friend or family moving I can just bring the truck.

Don't get me wrong I hate a lot of the truck out there. I don't need a new house worth of truck to move junk around.

What are your favorite examples of 'media within media' (e.g., shows, stories, or movies inside of other shows or books)?
  • The Dick Van Dike show is a great one.

    The Marvelous Misses Maisel

The game from the startreck like episode on BlackMirror and Sword Art Online! Both are arguably great.

The twilight zone episode about the podcast and the airplane is amazing too.

How does Lemmy feel about "open source" machine learning, akin to the Fediverse vs Social Media?
  • I guess to me be able to serve the 408b model even though I'm on a laptop is just awesome to me.

Also I saw Lora was an option for Petals but I haven't messed with it at all.

  • The splitting is 80% of the cool factor for me. Rather than bog down the one node that can handle those cooler models, and have more contribution opportunities.

I wonder honestly if a petals network could be a target host on horde lol

The poll is over, and the result is clear:
  • I mean I'm desperate for them to get a cash influx too, just not really sure how this does that. Maybe set up for another preferred default deal like they have with Google? Maybe privacy focused option as SaaS offering like they do with their VPN, but you ahead of the curve instead after VPNs became so common you trip over them.

  • I, a systems guy, have a better time learning go than nix packages.

The lang is just rough for me for some reason. I use it as glorified pigs.txt atm instead of my single source of truth for my system.

The poll is over, and the result is clear:
  • Why not just PWA to side bar extension support? If users want that side bar to a chatbot. Boom easy. If they don't or any other option its there too.

If they really want to support local ai specifically focus on the web3 API stuff for it.

Just be a web browser dammit lol

    Some basic info about USB
  • Maybe optional opt out? Like to say you are usb-4 you have to have this format and support all of these features. Other you are USB 4 W/O x,y,z,PD,Video, etc. I also think PD levels should be labeled on power sources and sinks.

    Some basic info about USB
  • "Power-only" meaning no data BEYOND the PD devices themselves because its actually a data protocol to negotiate the power output to the device.

TIL School shootings in America date all the way back to the 1700s
  • I think you maybe misunderstanding. I mean sure those are things libertarians who are also 2a supporters rail against and fight for those things, but yeah the people who are being targeted the most are the people need to exercise their 2a the most. If the only people armed are faciest or adjacent then only their rights and interests are protected by it. Without the 2a only the states rights and interests (police, DeSantis, etc) are protected with guns.

  • Those aren't all swat teams, the admin running the counter isn't coming in stomping ass on a moments notice. They aren't all just chilling in the catacombs waiting to march on a moments notice either.

If they did however mobilize to max effect, you don't think the arm population would immediately be on edge? That would be a full martial law order, which could be met with heavy resistance.

Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills
  • I feel like this calls for the importance of not just inundation but actual education for kids.

We basically let a whole generation have the relationship with the most common and arguably valuable be defined by advertising companies.

Not me, but I honestly, this seems like a cool idea. I like the idea of possibly creating a fine tunned model per user that translates vibes to what would resonate better with another person.

    Peertube to Lemmy mismatches

sh.itjust.works The Linux Experiment Channel (From Nick) is on Peertube, and it federates right into Lemmy as a community - sh.itjust.works

Really, how awesome is that? We could also show some support being active there from our Lemmy accounts! !thelinuxexperiment_channel@tilvids.com [/c/thelinuxexperiment_channel@tilvids.com] [https://tilvids.com/video-channels/thelinuxexperiment_channel] Links: - Lemmy.ml: https://lemmy.ml/c/thelinuxe...

Hey everyone, I saw this post about peertube channels being able to be seen as communities on lemmy, but I noticed that the comments don't show on the community post.

I was wondering if anyone else was tracking anything about this already, or any other peertube to lemmy integrations, like the embedded video playback from peertube (new feature) or peertube's remote account features (comment using any fediverse account) not working with Lemmy users (at least not me right now).

    Matrix chat about it

Update 01: Being tracked here on Lemmy's repo. Still interested in everyone's thoughts.

Does anyone know if/when AMD will support Linux on their new NPU? If it's never or too far out, what is everyone else looking towards for open source AI development?

This issue is apparently tracking the Linux communities request for it.

A governance toolkit for great communities

Hello all, I am just curious if anyone has taken a tool like community rule to define how their instance or community control is handled? Even more so if there has been any effort to make the actual decision-making actionable by the system.

Cool seeming project make more open matrix communities with plans to integrate with the ActivityPub standard. I really like the idea personally of being able to quickly turn a chat thread into a wider post/thread.
