  • The comment was bullshit in the first place and the fact that it wasn't AI was already pointed out. I am fucking tired of the slop police so maybe I'm being a bit too intense about it.

Maybe I misunderstood and he was agreeing with me that he didn't read the comments, but it just didn't come off that way to me.

  • In the context and how he said it, it implies the comments came after his imo. It was already quite clear at a glance by the time he commented.

Why is he saying "actually" if he's responding to being told he didn't look through the comments, by affirming he didn't look?

  • Everyone is quick to cheer on the copyright companies, but trials like these have far reaching implications. If you have to pay for the data, open source ai dies overnight. There are only a few companies that have the budget for that kind of investment.

  • These kind of images seem to be asking for harsher punishment for piracy in general. It's basically databroker propaganda.

The message is never "we can do it too, its clearly moral" but always "they shouldn't be doing it".

  • The Netflix series felt very different then the book. I found the mystery aspect in the first part of the book the most interesting, but the show completely skipped it. So the show wasn't bad but I was still disappointed.

  • We need to censor these AIs even more, to protect the children! We should ban them altogether. Kids should grow up with 4chan, general internet gore and pedos in chat lobbies like the rest of us, not with this devil AI.

  • The team I work with is 13 women, an other guy and me. There is zero bullshit to deal with, it's great. It does really put it in perspective. Every other workplace I was a part of, it always seemed to be other men that were hard to work with, never women.

Maybe I just got lucky but I'm going to attribute it to the gender ratio. Although the type of work might have something to do with it, the other places were more blue collar.

  • You're conflating your workplace with every other. Most dont work in financial IT with its stringent security measures.

    I would never trust

Nothing output by an AI is verified

You can't trust yourself to verify it? Are you a monkey unable to read its output and conclude if it properly rewrote and reformatted what you gave it?

If I give it the info and it formats it in a table, I'm not trusting it with anything, I'm literally checking it right after. Still faster then me typing the table by hand.

It can cite its sources, so if I'm trying to learn about a subject or getting info on a product/service, I just click the links it gives me.

It's easy to learn how to use these tools properly. You can also not use them, like, just don't. It's fine. I don't get the tantrum everytime the subject comes up and the constant gatekeeping tho.

  • I wouldn't let my children use ai, just like I wouldn't let them talk to strangers? The list of drawbacks are basically a list for using the internet in general in the first place. It's some serious "video games are dangerous vibes"

You work in IT, so you are clearly too good at coding to need it in small scripts and your environment is too complicated for the bigger thing. But don't you have documentation to write, Excel sheets, test scripts, etc. ?

I find uses. It's rewriting information I give it and everything is verified, I'm able to read and tweak it's output like an adult. Clearly your coworkers are also finding uses, if you have to deal with the fallout (lol).

Entertainment is valid. This is a meme community, the bar is if it make me laugh. I prefer proper OC, but I'll take AI OC over reposts any day.

On the environmental front, I think it's overstated. I use mostly local llms, so my impact is the same as playing a demanding game. Data centre's serve a lot of people, we just need a renewable grid and better laws so they aren't put in places with no water just because it's cheaper for them. The real problem is transport, both cars and flights, and shipments of consumer goods. Any activity that's solely technology driven is better for the environment imo.
