  • I mean, I guess I'm open if it is trying to do something controversial in actually adapting the book faithfully? Which I'm not sure would go over well or that I would like at all but at least would be making something new and relavent and dialogue provoking? The original was a pro-military pro-discipline novel written in anger at the suspending of US nuclear testing. Heinlein was frustrated at basically hippies that he saw as not really participating or taking responsibility for the country as a whole calling the shots and pulling back the US military development in the cold war. Agree or disagree and adaptation criticizing the current culture of western withdrawal from Afghanistan, the milquetoast supporting of Ukraine or other connecting issues could be a very interesting and relavent piece of modern political commentary. Again, agree or disagree with the stance, at least it's making a movie that is worth making because it will make people think and talk about different perspectives. Just don't fucking make a cash grab or an actual remake of the Verhoeven film (because it's already perfect, it doesn't need to be remade)

  • I can only hope this wakes people up to the unbelievably unsustainable way chickens are farmed in the US, even just a little bit. We saw a bit of that happen with cows after mad cow but nowhere near enough still, people will find ways to exploit animals in more and more inhumane ways to cut costs. I am not even a vegetarian, in fact I was a butcher for years (and my no longer being a butcher has nothing to do with personal ethics), but people need to understand that it is NOT POSSIBLE to treat animals the way we do in factory farming without horrifying consequences. You can look at it from a petri dish perspective or a spiritual one, either way the conclusion is the same and inescapable. We were feeding cows the blood and bones of slaughtered cows for decades and thought that was fine even after cows started dying of BSE, people only woke up when it jumped to people. Look up how these chickens are being treated, we aren't even vaccinating them because it is viewed as more expensive than just slaughtering all of them.

  • At the risk of saying the dreaded words, both sides honestly have a problem with calling anything they believe to be unjust "illegal" with no real understanding of the law. The key difference being that it's the fucking president on this side and randoms on the internet and in town halls and in the media saying it on the other.

  • I mean, lens flare does happen in the eye, just much less dramatically because there's only the one lens and everything is round. But "glare" like how the rest of your sight gets washed out because the sun is in your field of view is a manifestation of lens flare. The eyelashes can also produce some weird light artifacts that resemble camera lens flares but it's a different phenomenon.

  • They get far more money being the foil of leftist movements by making themselves the only option for anything less far right than the conservatives and then paying lip service to the left while continuing to support moderate conservative policy.

  • Nono, none of them would get you on a list for buying them, they're basically all common industrial and even household solvents or stuff you'd find in the pool chemical aisle,, the issue is you're effectively suggesting dousing riot police with gasoline as well as things that burn if they get on your skin. Damaging the riot shield is the least of the concerns here. If you did this, they would (rightfully) assume you were trying to SET THEM ON FIRE and you might succeed accidentally given how pyrotechnic riot control can get. This is likely to just get you shot.

  • For the sake of sanity, all of those incompatible chemicals are accelerants and most are toxic, this is a good way to start with a cheeky idea of how to fight back relatively harmlessly and end with a massive felony conviction for attempted murder of an officer.

  • No, stop, let us have single player games, with 100-10000 players in an MMORPG you are suddenly diluted and weak, your ability to influence the world and be heroic and become powerful is suddenly dependent on competing for time investment and skill with 100s to 1000s of other people. THATS WHAT I ALREADY DO IN REAL LIFE. If I want to feel mid and not very powerful without putting in a ton of extra work, I'll go outside. Especially when doing that extra work would actually allow me to spend EVEN LESS TIME on myself in the real world.

TLDR: there are enough MMOs, there are DEFINITELY enough competitive multiplayer games (also PVM/P survival building games) I do not understand people's obsessions with saying the very small number of great single player games we have ought to be MMOs. Go play ESO or whatever it is you guys like playing.
