A nuclear plant’s closure was hailed as a green win. Then emissions went up
  • YOU understands it is dumb to shut them down. You are not necessarily the average green advocate. The average anything advocate / activists these days are usually much dumber than the general concerned citizens.

Sometimes I forget they even allow this. Finish the fucking thing before adding extra shit. How can an unfinished thing even have extra shit?
  • Then let me ask another way, what right do you have to decide what other people may or may not want? If people are paying their hard earned cash to pay for what you and I consider shitty things, then you and I are clearly wrong.

  • I mean, it is just your opinion that EA shouldn't have DLC. There is no fault in buying it and there is no fault in selling it. Does it make things worse for the rest of us? Yeh it does, but really, why do you care if you aren't buying it?

Square Enix’s president says it will be ‘aggressive in applying’ AI
  • I mean all the shitty mobile games for the past decade or so are very much human generated garbage. What's wrong about having AI doing the repetitive work and have human do the creative part? I mean I get it that you are worried the companies are going to use it wrong, but you can also agree there are good ways to use it yes? Or you are fundamentally against using AI entirely?

    fishing for math
  • He said this: I have never done anything "useful". No discovery of mine has made, or is likely to make, directly or indirectly, for good or ill, the least difference to the amenity of the world.

That's in https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Mathematician's_Apology, the summary of which matches what you said:

One of the main themes of the book is the beauty that mathematics possesses, which Hardy compares to painting and poetry.[5] For Hardy, the most beautiful mathematics was that which had no practical applications in the outside world (pure mathematics) and, in particular, his own special field of number theory. Hardy contends that if useful knowledge is defined as knowledge which is likely to contribute to the material comfort of mankind in the near future (if not right now), so that mere intellectual satisfaction is irrelevant, then the great bulk of higher mathematics is useless. He justifies the pursuit of pure mathematics with the argument that its very "uselessness" on the whole meant that it could not be misused to cause harm. On the other hand, Hardy denigrates much of the applied mathematics as either being "trivial", "ugly", or "dull", and contrasts it with "real mathematics", which is how he ranks the higher, pure mathematics.

  • Why is the supply air duct not directly behind my vent?

I was investigating why is one of the air vents so loud when AC is running. Turned out the air duct is not actually behind the vent, but to the side of it.

This is looking from the vent towards the duct: https://imgur.com/LoVmJLB

    Video for better context: https://imgur.com/a/xije77u

Is this a common thing? The casing for the grille (left of the picture, the white thing) is restricting air flow a bit and making the whole vent kinda loud.

I am thinking to get a dremel and just cut off the extra casing that's serving no purpose

Edit: mixed up return vs supply. This is a supply vent.
