Well I totally borked my ZigBee network, and it looks like I'll need to factory reset and re-pair everything. I ignored the warning, and attempted a channel change. Lost everything and can't get any device to connect.

So since I need to do this, what is everyone's preference of ZHA vs Z2M? I was on ZHA, but am I missing anything on the other side?

  • Have you considered a travel router? I have a Gli.net travel router, and that can connect to an existing WiFi network and then you can create your own lan behind that. You can even configure it to use a VPN service if your concerned about your traffic on the existing WiFi.

  • Hello all,

I currently have my primary NAS running TrueNAS Scale, and I am adding a second as an off-site backup of my critical data which will also run TrueNAS Scale. I have three datastores at the moment, nextcloud, backups, and media. I want to replicate the entirety of nextcloud and backups, but for media I only want to backup my irreplaceable media. This would be personal photos and videos, but not my collection of Linux isos.

Is it possible to have a ZFS Replication task that excludes certain directories? If not, how would you recommend I approach this?

    Thanks!

  • I struggle to find a motherboard and separate CPU that gives me better value that this. Neither of these are perfect but I think that offer plenty for my use as a NAS.

  • I'm very happy with my current N5105 board that I linked, even though it doesn't have any PCI slots. With 6 SATA and two M.2s I should be ok. If necessary I can add a 6 SATA M.2 adapter to get up to 12, which is definitely more than I need. If/when I get 10gbe I would have to upgrade either of these to get those speeds. Although a M.2 PCI riser with a 10gbe card would get me ~7gb so that is also an option.

Any thoughts on these two boards? I don't see any real disadvantages to the N100 board when compared to the N5105.

  • I will be running Truenas scale with ZFS, so will be installing 32GB of memory.

I realize a full size PCI slot would be better, but not really necessary for my application. Both have 6 SATA and two M.2s. I could put a 6 SATA/M.2 adapter in when I need more HDs. I'm really just comparing these two, and I don't really see any disadvantages to the N100 board.

  • It is listed at 32GB, but I've seen folks online who have installed more and tested it. Same 16GB limit listed with the N5105 that I currently have. I have 32GB on that and tested it.

  • Hi all,

I am looking at building my next NAS. My current will move to offsite, and the new will be primary. I previously used this motherboard, and was planning to go with that again. Then I saw this one, which seems like a better option. It has a slightly better CPU and a PCIe slot, but can only have 32GB memory max compared with 64GB max on my current.

Am I missing anything or is this a no-brainer to switch to the N100 board?

  • Just went through this myself and settled on DIY build. Someone recommended this video, and I followed it very closely. The built was so easy and less expensive than off the shelf. I installed TrueNAS on it and couldn't be happier.

  • I'm a bit stuck at the moment and hoping I can get some guidance. Right now I store my media and other files on a few external drives connected to one of my Proxmox nodes, and passed through to an OMV VM. I backup everything important off-site.

I'd like to separate my storage from my Proxmox nodes into a dedicated NAS and dip my toes into ZFS and also Proxmox high availability. I also want to roll open source software (probably TrueNAS) on the NAS, but I do not want to build an entire PC. The off-the-sheld Synologys and the like seem like overpriced hardware especially if I'd prefer an alternative software.

I am considering getting one of the used business PCs or other mini-pc and connecting a USB-C DAS up to it and installing TrueNAS on the mini-pc.

Is this a viable approach? Am I setting myself up for a system that I'll want to upgrade in a couple years?

Here is an article that describes a similar approach: https://www.androidauthority.com/cheap-diy-nas-server-3348392/

I've got a brand new Pixel 8 and my battery isn't making it through the day. Android tells me Firefox is eating it up in the background. I just changed it to restricted battery use and I'll see if that helps.

I do not want to switch to Brave or Chrome, but this is intolerable. What are you favorite Firefox alternatives and why? Mull? Librewolf?
