As it should be
  • My parents still have cable. The buttons are backlit, they turn on when you pick it up and turn off when you set it down. There's also a mic button you can hold down and talk to input text by voice instead of typing on a virtual keyboard with a dpad. Not rechargeable but two AAs last for a year so why bother with a battery that eventually fails and renders the remote useless?

Even basic remotes are pretty clever now

    Japan to criminalise cannabis use
  • I was shocked at how often you just see people laying passed out on the sidewalk or sleeping on a bench. Japan is an insanely different place after the bars start closing. Was genuinely uneasy with how many people everywhere just had zero control of themselves.

This is a bigger culture shock than the metric vs imperial system to me.
  • I've seen multiple hospitals where the floor with the main entrance is 2, those will get the star. So it's more of a "here's how you leave" indicator rather than ground specifically

  • Survival rates of a heart attack are upwards of 90% from what I can find online. There are certain types where the survival rate for that type alone is much lower though.

My shredded potatoes came with some disassembly required.
  • Potatoes are famously incredibly rare and only keep for a few hours after being picked so I can totally see the purpose of a product like this

She ate a poppy seed salad just before giving birth. Then they took her baby away.
  • She tested positive for heroin, not THC. If she was actually actually heroin, child protective services involvement would absolutely be warranted.

The issue here is the erroneous test and complete failure on the part of the hospital to confirm its results

Anon checks out politics on reddit
  • Except Reddit bans you if you so much as suggest someone stubs their toe. The rules against "advocating violence" have become so broadly interpreted in the last few years.

Lemmy is significantly more tolerant of this kind of posting

Woman who was denied a liver transplant, after review highlighted alcohol use, has died
  • Partial transplant from a living donor was not viable for her. It would have immediately failed, leaving her with no liver at all, and then she would have died because she wasn't eligible for a full transplant. Doctors will not perform a procedure that guarantees death. The article explains this

Well eggplant does but if I'm buying canned spam substitute I'm not in the mood for breading something.

Student dorm does not allow wifi routers
  • My university had student apartments, each had their own router. No weird rules since it wasn't the university's network at all, it belonged to whoever lived in the apartment. Full router access, connect whatever, put it in bridge mode and connect your own if you want.
