  • Yeah, sign them up for alll the insurance quotes, healthcare help and home renovation contacts you can find.

Fill those fuckers inboxes with unintelligible voicemails to sift through and unknown callers.

How do you folks get Parts for your Oldies?
  • Same here. VW Heritage parts has a decent selection for the cars I work on. And for T3 (Vanagon here in the US), there are a bunch of domestic parts suppliers, same for air cooled Porsches and VWs (Beetles, Buses, Things, Dune Buggies).

I’m also rebuilding a 64 Chevy truck for a client, and almost every body panel is available from Taiwan, though so far Auto Metal Direct (AMD) has had the best out of the box fit. Some cheaper panels look like they were designed by a blind man wearing baseball mitts.

    Prague Oldies!
  • Are the left 2 Lada based or something?

And the one in the right doesn’t look like any ford I’ve seen. Especially the coilovers!

Pigs Fly; George Will Endorses Harris
  • This stands in contrast to the Republican party of today which is almost entirely dogmatic in its beliefs.

Doubles down even when anything it believes is shown to be patently false/immoral/illegal.

The heart wants what the heart wants
  • No chillitos in all of New England either, gotta go to NYC for the closest, then Ohio or NC.

I was in Cadillac MI last summer, regrettably ate at a Taco Bell, and didn’t even know I could have gotten one! It was the first run to the border I’d made in years too!

Sat up all night in a wind storm with cramps afterwards. 0/10

After charger, Apple removes USB-C cable from the box
  • They switched back to the much more durable MagSafe (3?) connector. I have 3 MagSafe MacBooks and one usc-c model. The only one I have issues not charging is the USB-C one, and it’s the newest by 2 years.

  • It’s actually a really impressive bit of engineering and craft. Making the doors work around the back wheel wells because of the extreme chassis shortening is difficult work.

Also the fuel tank, drive shaft, exhaust, brake lines, and wiring all had to be modified to work too. Even the parking brake would have had to be changed to keep working.

Democrats who urged Biden to exit race say Harris is exceeding expectations
  • I think the opposition was trying for that strategy, but didn’t think the Dems would actually do it.

I’m happy it’s working out for Democrats so far, and hope it continues.

    Calling in healthy
  • The work/life culture was better than my preceding professional jobs, but the middle management was terrible, with 3 coming and going in 2 years.

I became a consultant for one more year, and liked that more, but they ultimately got out of that business (Shopify and squarespace ultimately took that market around the same time).

Lots of negativity towards AI lately, but consider:
  • I think the problem is that for consumers, it most often being used for generating spammy ad revenue sites with plagiarized rewritten content. Or the ads themselves in the case of image generation.

I’m glad it’s working for writing unit tests, though it would seem that better build/debug systems could be designed to eliminate repetitive coding like that by now. But I quit web dev about 5 years ago, and don’t intend to go back.

Never liked the 3 spoke wheels at the time, but kinda fun to see nowadays.

Had the perfect vanity plate too!

I’ll post a couple more pics in comments.

It’s a 1991 VW Multivan so it came with a poptop, and a cabinet in the back (so it has a weird L shaped downstairs bed), but no kitchen, just seating for 8 with two backwards facing jump seats.

It is very much 1980s technology (especially the convoluted ignition and injection system that still managed to act like a carburetor on cold starts). Everyone who approaches it at gas stations and parking lots always asks what year it is, then they look confused when it starts with a 9.
