Milei's popularity rebounds as Argentina's markets hit record highs
  • the approval rating of Milei's government bouncing to 52.5% in October from 49.6% a month before

This is well within the margin of error and not worth this headline

Argentina's trade surplus nears $16 billion under Milei
  • Their currency is so worthless they can't afford to import anything, so this makes sense.

Sure, YOY inflation is over 200%, the poverty rate is almost 60% of the Argentinian people, and the unemployment rate is all but unmeasurable as millions of people have moved to working in the underground economy, but hey, we got a trade surplus, so the titans of industry can still get theirs!

  • when they get caught

My man, people coming across the border to claim asylum intentionally turn themselves in. You fantasize about USCBP "hunting down illegals" when in reality 90% of their job is serving as taxis for people who are intentionally trying to be found

  • Cool entomological fact: Cockroaches and termites (and also praying mantises) are really closely related, and many cockroaches have the ability to digest lignin, aka wood, just like termites

  • You were talking about the asylum seekers Texas sent to Martha's Vineyard and NYC after lying to them and withholding information from the receiving jurisdictions for the purpose of creating political theater

Texas hospitals must now ask patients whether they're in the US legally.
  • Well asylum seekers aren't illegal immigrants, to be clear, but once Texas knows about them, you fucking can prepare for them, dumbass. My entire point was that the Texas government purposefully lied and withheld information to create political theater in other jurisdictions that were more than willing to help and coordinate a shared response

  • Literally no one thinks all the states shouldn't bear the load of refugees equally. The "emergency" was the Texas government lying to people about what they were doing on the bus and secretively transporting them specific places to create political theater. If the Texas government said "hey y'all, we have a lot of refugees coming in. We're going to be sending 3 bus loads/week to NYC, and a bus load will arrive to Martha's Vineyard in 2 days," you do realize none of this would've been in the news at all

Dentists are pulling healthy and treatable teeth to profit from implants, experts warn
  • This has definitely been happening forever. Unnecessary fillings are par for the course. I went to a new dentist once and on the first visit he told me I needed 3 fillings. I declined and a high pressure sales pitch followed. I went to someone else the next time who said there was nothing that required immediate attention. I've been going there for years and just now needed one filling from her.

Lots of other people would just trust the first sleazebag dentist, or lack the confidence to say no, making this a serious problem. Licensing boards need to hold their licenses accountable for performing ethical work

I know this will sound callous of me, but fuck this NIMBY bullshit, and also KVUE for promoting it. This apartment complex is going up a 60 second walk from the Highland Station on the Red Line. Throw a rock and you can hit both Airport Blvd and 2222. This is the geographical center of Austin near some of the busiest intersections in the city. It's not reasonable to expect the vacant lot behind your house will stay that way.

The Hole In The Wall music venue has secured a 20-year lease and will remain open to celebrate its 50th anniversary next summer, thanks largely to $1.6 million in assistance from the city’s Iconic Venue Fund.

Will Tanner, who purchased the club located on the stretch of Guadalupe Street known as The Drag in 2008, signed the new lease agreement – an initial 10-year lease with two five-year extensions – with The Weitzman Group realty firm on Monday. The signing followed 10 months of negotiation and work with staff from the city and the Austin Economic Development Corporation to become the first recipient of city funds allocated to preserve culturally significant music venues.
