Belgian GP Quali question
  • As others said, it was a trial for last weekend. But also, under the trial the restrictions only count in dry sessions, under wet conditions the brestrictions don't exist.

Why Australians are snubbing this fast and free way to lodge their tax returns
  • I had some big problems last year trying to figure out claiming dividends for some investments. After getting frustrated and giving up, I came back a month later to try again and it was all automatically filled in. Apart from that small hiccup it really is too easy.

  • It's also very common in legal cases to share evidence printed out, instead of in digitally, to make sure it isn't easy for the other side.

    PLEASE - No result spoilers
  • As someone who always watches the race delayed:

Please DO post spoilers in the titles. We need more F1 content and discussion on Lemmy, and the way to grow the community is to have highlights and other posts with descriptive titles.

Yes, writing "race results" instead of "Verstappen wins" won't make a difference, but I want to see videos with titles like "Driver X spins out on lap 60", or "Alpine double DNFs again". Then we can all discuss the exciting/tragic/interesting parts of the race. If we don't allow posts like that until days after the race this community won't grow.

The onus is on me to avoid social media when I can't watch the race live (which is 90% of the time).

  • That's why you set limits and have laws/zoning that allow some things and not others. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

    It's all coming up tollhouse
  • Only works when there are decent alternatives, other wise it is just taking money from commuters (and in the case of my city giving it to private corporations).

I was cleaning out the garage and found one of my great grandfather's old memes, and thought the community might be interested.

Plus all the other memes in here were making me feel old.

  • Maybe for some companies. For others the main draw card is push notifications and a big shiny icon for the product on your phone. Also, just FOMO when every other company has an app.

What's a band that you like that was gone way too soon?
  • Not very well known, but Darcy Clay, a singer from New Zealand who only released a 6 track EP before taking his own life. His music reminds me a lot of early Beck. It would have been great to hear what he could have done.

Also My Red Cell, a Welsh (I think) punk band that released one album almost 20 years ago. I really liked them as a teenager, but they never took off.

2023 British Grand Prix - Race Classification
  • Unless something happens to Max Red Bull are fine for the constructors championship. So long as Max keeps coming first, it doesn't matter what else happens, Red Bull are far enough in front that they'll win the WCC

    Thoughts on posting spoilers?
  • Due to time zones I almost never watch F1 live, but I just avoid places where the results may be discussed.

If we don't allow people to to discuss what happens in the race this space will die. Even banning spoilers from titles would be pretty bad, it would just lead to posts with useless titles like "Verstappen does thing in race"

Australia's 'retirement age' just became 67. So why are the French so upset about working until 64?
  • Cost of living is so shit here that most people can't afford to retire at that age anyway. There might be some older Gen-Xers who complain, but they're not exactly known for protesting.
