I have noticed this bottleneck too, and wondered if there might be some way to build a website or app to help facilitate people trading labor, but I have no clue about the feasibility or where to even start. I wear thinking something that enabled people to match skills with needs, to act as a portfolio for samples of their work, to list local endorsements or mutual connections for some level of trust, but that sounds pretty daunting.
I didn't realize how similar they were to pawpaws! That's so interesting, thank you for this picture.
Thank you so much, I'm going to see if I can find a copy!
Love you username btw - many hamburgers to you.
genuinely going to print this out in the morning to hang on my mirror, I cannot think of a better morning affirmation
1 - I can't deal with the idea that the is NOT real, so I firmly refuse to look it up
2 - I cannot adequately express how much I fucking love this
Why would anyone want to associate inane internet chatter with birdsong when they could simply associate it with porn? Elon has a very large....brain, and he wants to make sure you think of it as often as he does.
Rumor has it that our thoughts fill an aching void in his soul that can otherwise only be filled with apartheid emeralds or NFTs, but science has yet to find a way to test this hypothesis.
Thanks for this post! Not only am I gladdened to read this story of success, but I'm super excited to learn about GLSEN. I have a trans teen in high school in rural America; this organization is exactly the kind of thing we need to be part of, and I had never heard of it before. Thank you so much!!
Seriously considering printing this out to keep in my bathroom as a reference for the morning. "What are we today and how do we best cope with that?"
Why does the computer make you conclude OP is in their 50s? OP says in the title that they're 46. I'm 41, and we had this computer at my rural elementary school.
Acknowledgement and acceptance are the first step towards change. I believe in you.
idk how else to express my appreciation for this except to tell you that I gazed upon it with love and admiration for a good minute, long enough that I made my own self uncomfortable with how happy this goofy picture made me. It feels like a true representation of the casual, homemade, "let's just try it!" vibe of lemmy. This is beautiful, thank you.
I'm 41f (going on 13 at times), and this is why my husband hates(loves) having me around the shop - all the mechanical everything is full of euphemisms and innuendo. "mating surfaces" 😂
trying so hard to politely save this to show my husband in the morning, but I'm about to wake him up giggling over how much he's going to love it, this is so silly
idk if you made this or are just reposting to share, but either way: thank you, I love it!
I like my memes like I like myself:
✨vintage✨
I don't think you're entirely wrong about none of them truly giving a shit about average Americans, but I would love it if you would reconsider the utility of voting at all. I'm a woman in Ohio with a trans kid, and the outcome of the last few state elections has directly affected us. Just like they weren't playing around when they said they were coming for our rights, please know that they're not kidding when they talk about banning pornography and birth control.
It's one thing to not be actively helping as much as they promised (which is absolutely a thing that democrats do, I'm totally with you on that!), but it's another thing entirely to be actively working to turn the United States into some kind of christofascist oligarchy. Please, please vote.
I think this is a brilliant idea! I'm sorry that I don't have the knowledge or equipment to help, but this is very exciting and I want to cheer you on. Would you please keep us updated about the progress of the project?
Has anybody told you lately how proud they are of you? I'm just some old lady on the internet, but my kid is trans, and I'm so proud of him for being himself, and I'm proud of you too. Your dad may have been a bit of an ass about it, but you are brave - it takes so much courage just to be yourself for anyone, and so much more so for anyone who has anything other than the rich, straight, white identity idolized by so much of society. And yet here you are, with unsupportive parents, still dedicated to being you.
I'm so fucking proud of you. ❤️
This is so much more true than I think most people believe.
My husband and I have a small engine business, and I took a free "community entrepreneur bootcamp" class through the local university this spring in the hope that we might learn something helpful. Instead, I learned fun things like leaning on your customers' fears as a marketing tactic (?? 😔🤦) and that the most prominent local accountant - brought in as an expert speaker by the university! - advises his clients to pay as little as possible as late as possible, and most appallingly, I'm not exaggerating, these are the actual words I heard this man say in front of a room full of people: "if one of your employees gets hurt at your business, it's better for you to stand on their neck until they stop breathing than to call for help, because it's so much easier and cheaper to settle a death claim then an injury." And he actually said that it sounds like he's joking but he's not, this is his understanding of the situation.
I genuinely want to see the best in everyone, and I have never before had the experience of fantasizing about a person's death while they were talking in front of me, and it was abhorrent and awful but also... Wtf? How do we even help someone who sees other people as expendable tools the way this person does?
What can we even do about people who not only don't want to live up to their agreements and commitments, but are just straight up out to fuck everyone else over? How do we help/fix that?
