What's something about the fediverse you know but most people seem not to?
  • Perhaps «monitoring» was too strong of a word...

someone would eventually notice and complain.

I'll rephrase: if a layperson wanted to check if an instance is not following through, how could they confirm it?

How would a credibility system work…
  • Is this for an online community like Lemmy, or more oriented towards fixing the credit institutions?

in any case, a credibility metric would soon turn into a goal to achieve ^(karmafarming says what?)^

A metric ceases to be useful when it becomes a goal.

  • ( thanks! do you happen to know other instances that have downvotes disabled? up until know, i just knew of BeeHaw. Choosing between an upvote or engaging on conversation is more enticing when you can't just give a thumbs down and leave the room )

Are modern LLMs closer to AGI or next word predictor? Where do they fall in this graph with 10 on x-axis being human intelligence.
  • That just seems like someone read about Roko's basilisk and decided to rebrand that nightmare as the mission/vision of a company.

What a time to be alive!

  • what is 9?

exactly! trying to plot this is in 2D is hella confusing.

plus the y-axis doesn't really make sense to me. are we only comparing humans and LLMs? where do turtles lie on this scale? what about parrots?

the e/acc stuff makes them look like a cult

unsure what that acronym means. in what sense are they like a cult?

And while, yeah the wiki is empty, thanks for clearing this one out for the fedi.

  • at that point I start recycling them, and go back to parenthesis.

    so when bp = 300x - 3, this:

    4( 4[ 4{ 15bp + 10 } - 375 ] - 2250 ) - 15000

    would turn to

    4( 4[ 4{ 15( 300x - 3) + 10 } - 375 ] - 2250 ) - 15000

perhaps not the best, but I rather stick to conventional symbols rather than using... idk, question marks? that'd be funny as hell, though

    just picture it:

    4© 4« 4¿ 15bp + 10 ? - 375 » - 2250 🄯 - 15000

DAE use GnuCash for personal finances?

At the end of 2022, I discovered this software that I've been using all year. I'd like to hear your thoughts or experiences with GnuCash, or whatever system/program you use to track your personal finances!

For the ones unfamiliar, it's based on a double-entry accounting system; every transaction always has at least two accounts involved. Example: if I spend 200 SEK on a restaurant, it goes from Assets:Cash to Expenses:Food.

Starting by creating my own accounts, it helped me immensely to have an overview of my general financial situation.

Around March, I found enlightening to re-define what expenses needed their own category from what I was unconsciously lumping into 'others'. Having it all already logged, made it quite easy . The caveat is that all the entries are manual, but my finances are not as complex, so with 30-45 minutes a week I have it updated.

You can even create diagrams for your monthly expenses, or general balance, among other reports that come quite handy if you want to run a query.

    Hello all ✌️

I just downloaded the app and, must say, it's incredibly smooth; definitely a polished UI !

The issue is, even after having logged in (on lemmy.ml), I can't interact (upvote, comment, etc.) with content from any other instance. I get a "This thread was retrieved via inst.ance. You are not logged in there." message. Isn't the idea of the fediverse that I can interact with other instances even if I'm not registered in them? Is anyone else facing the same situation?

I have no trouble doing the same in other apps. Actually, as this community is on lemmy.world, this post had to be written using Connect.

How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance for your comments!
