I’m not saying you’re wrong, this is just a very American marketing approach. Like, why would a tech company want to grow out of the tech sector? Oh right, never ending quarter over quarter growth…
The wild part to me is that the average person doesn’t even know what IO means in a tech context, but enough tech companies have used .io for normies to be conditioned into associating .io with tech
Not all TLDs are, just the ccTLDs. The .io domain was never intended to be such a popular one, but tech bros were like “zomg io! That’s like input/output!! So techie!!!” Meanwhile, .tech exists and is not country-specific but is far less popular for some reason.
Country music from before it became hick rap. Songs that told cool stories instead of being about nationalism and pickup trucks
Wait why are distros removing HEVC?
I love how this whole debacle has turned into a finger-pointing party
“We, Microsoft, didn’t do it, CrowdStrike did!”
“We, CrowdStrike, didn’t do it, the airlines did!”
Of course, this would be fine if done for technical purposes, but it’s actually being done to reverse stock price dips and make the boards of directors happy
Yeah when the main compliment that people are giving is “it’s not great but at least it’s not another Marvel movie”, that’s not gonna carry you very far
archive.org is the modern proposal of a library, and yeah, look what’s happened to them
You’re thinking of “porque” which means “because”, while “por qué” means “why”
A Steam library view with shelves of boxes would be so cool. Sorta like what GOG has
Driving a red sedan
It’s not even cheap anymore :(
That’s the vast majority of Lemmy…
What lol not even close. NFL+ is $100/yr and you get every game. Sure, they’re replays and not live games, but honestly that’s the best way to watch American football so you can skip over the absurd amount of commercials. Cuts the 3 hr broadcasts down to 2 hr. They also have condensed versions that they post a couple hours after the game ends which cuts out everything between whistles, so it’s just the actual plays. Cuts the 3 hr broadcast down to 45 min. If you’re a football mega nerd, they also have coach’s versions where it shows the 22-man camera angle of every play.
Haven’t owned a cartridge system since I lived under parents and yeah, it was the same for me, turn it off when you’re done using it because it’ll drive the power bill up and money doesn’t grow on trees and all that. I can’t imagine systems like the SNES or N64 really drew that much power though? But as a tree hugger and an engineer, I tend to avoid any level of waste. I doubt cartridges suffer from any significant wear from being left on, since they’re just solid state electronics.
Anything with a fan gets immediately turned off when my session ends because I’m hyper sensitive to fan noise (not sure if this is an autism thing?)
Comic Sans really isn’t that bad, it’s just one of those things that became trendy to hate by people who are incapable of developing their own personality. Like the word “moist”
Yeah, being from Russia is a lot different from being associated with the Russian government. If the maintainers are in the latter, then yeah fuck em, but if they live in Russia with no realistic way of getting out and they’re just trying to live a normal life removed from the bullshit and write code as an intellectual escape? And you take that away from them? Precisely how you radicalize people
Not every game has to be an e-sport my friend, some games can be fun
that game will live on forever
And Melee fans will still refuse to play it for whatever reason
There’s conservative hacker groups out there? I always thought someone who was smart enough to be a hacker would also be smart enough to see through their bullshit beliefs. But I also know some people who are very smart in one thing and absolute morons when it comes to everything else so idk.
Or maybe anarchist hacker groups paid by conservatives?
Google your city name and “maker space” to see if there’s any near you. Not only does my local library district have them, there’s another local option with a monthly membership fee. They have large equipment like laser engravers, CNCs, drill presses, etc. They usually also have small stuff like drills that you can check out and bring home. Also a great way to meet other makers in your community
Backyard Baseball's return to modern PCs may look like a simple case of emulation, but it was much more complicated than that.
I had the 3-pack with the original football, baseball, and soccer PC games. Put countless hours into them as a kid, so I’m super excited for these rereleases
I've been hosting Alexandrite as my main web UI for Lemmy because Lemmy's own UI is a bit too basic for my tastes, but Alexandrite hasn't been updated in 7 months and is still missing features like setting a default comment sort type. Can anyone recommend an alternative with a similar look and feel? I use the "list" view on smaller resolutions and the "cards" view on my ultrawide
I get it, part of the fun of AI images is being able to make several images in a single stroke. But there are multiple ways to put those images in a single post, rather than making a post for each.
Looking at you, vintage food guy
It’s pretty crazy that romhacking dot net shuts down the same day I finish playing through my first retro mod, but that is in line with my usual luck…
Anyways, this mod for Banjo Kazooie is absolutely incredible. It’s Banjo Kazooie set in the world of Ocarina of Time. The levels were cleverly designed, the Easter eggs kept me smiling nonstop, and every song was an absolute tune.
If you are a fan of Banjo, Zelda, and Nintendo in general, this is a definite must-play. Guaranteed to warm your heart
I have a UVC capture card that I use to play my Switch. Currently, I utilize it via the full screen projector feature of OBS, but the Switch is 1080p while my monitor is 4k and the upscaling that OBS uses causes some noticeable artifacts.
I’m wondering if there’s an application with some configurable upscaling options that would make this experience better. I don’t need anything crazy that would cause noticeable input lag, but anything even slightly better than OBS would be welcome
I see there are several different ways to install OSRS on Linux - flatpaks, Android emulators, Steam, etc. - but can anyone recommend the best as far as ease of setup? With lack of glitches being the second priority?
I have an AMD GPU that is quite recent (<5 years)
It's my turn to set the Community Challenge for this week...
Theme
This week we're doing theme via creative constraint. Make whatever you want, you just can't use characters. More specifically, no characters, named or unnamed, from any stories, songs, games, etc. That includes mash ups.
You can definitely still have people, you can still use tropes, and even create your own totally original characters. Just no reusing existing characters, or obvious derivatives
Rules
-
Follow the community’s rules above all else
-
One comment and image per user
-
Embed image directly in the post (no external link)
-
Workflow/Prompt sharing encouraged (we're all here for fun)

At the end of the week each post will be scored according to the following grid
| Prize | Points | | --- | --- | | Most upvoted | +3 points | | Second most upvoted | +1 point | | Theme is clear | +1 point | | OP’s favorite (me, this week) | +1 point | | Most original | +1 point | | Last entry (to compensate for less time to vote) | +1 point | | Prompt and workflow included | +1 point |
