#165 Signing Documents · This Week in GNOME
  • I asked about the same in the past. There's a lot of hate from people who dislike the DE or the attitude of some core contributors.

free and open source google analystics alternative that does not need to be self hosted
  • So, basically you want an open source google analytics alternative, hosted by someone else, that has a free tier.

I don't believe that exists. But you shoukd check on alternativeto.com, open each alternative's web page and check their plans.

Is overwatch 2 really that bad?
  • I play Overwatch since OW1's launch. It's competitive/ranked play mode is incomparable to say... CounterStrike 2's level of polish for example. That said, it's crazy fun in Quick Play (unranked), and if you are looking for a hero shooter where the whole hero is entirely different from others, then it's the best free to play hero shooter since all microtransactions available are only cosmetics. No pay to win mechanic available whatsoever.

The bad press is because between OW1 and OW2 they completly trashed the competitive scene, while also overpromising and not delivering at all, a PVE campaign mode. After that, they moved to a semi-pay-to-win model where there where timed exclusive heroes behind a battle pass, after that you could unlock them by grinding, but that model has evolved into a cosmetic-only model. So, no more semi-pay-to-win, only cosmetics.

So, right now, OW2 is closer to OW1's greatness than it has ever been since they trashed it. Not there yet in terms of balance, polish, competitive mode, but it has grown in the amount of modes, heros and maps.

For me, for what I value, OW2 is the best hero shooter. We'll see when I get a hold of Marvel Rivals.

Lutris dev has joined the Playtron project
  • Bazzite is crazy good. There's absolutely no way they will top it if they keep focusing on the bullshit they are stuffing into Playtron.

Lutris dev has joined the Playtron project
  • I bet their whole business model is sucking the blood out of their investor fully conscious that the final OS will fail. I mean, there is no way they will find any degree of success in units sold and actual revenue.

What Linux distro surprised you the most?
  • The entire Ublue project is freaking amazing. But Bazzite finished off my distrohopping. I work by day and game by night. Bazzite has eliminated all maintenance tasks for me. It just works. It makes things so damn easy. Also, the Ublue CI/CD builds is crazy cool. It allows them to focus on the important stuff, while all the chores are done automatically. Truly amazing stuff. I also heard lots of praise about the dev oriented spin: Bluefin.

    Linux Directory Structure - FHS
  • This image shows how the system stores it's own stuff. Your junk will go in /home/mtchristo/whatever you want.

If you don't like that, you can do whatever you want. Linux will let you.

Think of it like in Windows where you have this structure.

Ozean: Self-Hosted RSS reader written in Go.
  • Every single open source and linux related blog has an RSS feed. A reader groups all those in a single "inbox", I save / share what I find interesting. It's an awesome way to condense news.

  • linuxiac.com Ladybird Browser Team Selects Swift as Preferred Language

Andreas Kling announces Swift as Ladybird's future language for better safety and ergonomics. Full transition awaits Swift 6.

I would have preferred Rust, a language created by Mozilla instead of one with ties to Apple, but I'm not a dev so I can't really judge. What are your thoughts?

Chromium has had experimental support for Wayland for some time, and is moving towards stabilizing it. Let's take a look at how we got to where we are now, and at what's still missing before it can be stabilized.

www.gamingonlinux.com NVIDIA exploring ways to support an upstream kernel mode GPU driver

Time to get your popcorn out, as it seems NVIDIA are continuing their steps to further improve their Linux support on their GPUs.

If not, would anyone help me build one ?

I was thinking of using git and markdown or google sheets.

Apart from ovbious features, it would need to compare TDP control, and benchmarks.

UPDATE: First version is up, and open to issues & PRs. Please contribute! Link https://github.com/berserkwarwolf/SteamOS-alternatives-overview

    > Update: DXVK-NVAPI 0.7 was also released just now with NVIDIA Reflex for D3D12 support using the VKD3D-Proton entry points. There is also support for Latencyflex on non-NVIDIA GPUs for a few games via spoofing the Pascal architecture for non-NVIDIA GPUs. Plus various other updates and improvements.

I moved to KDE for better gaming support, but I really dislike the condensed look of everything in the settings app, discover, and most of all in Dolphin.

Are there any discrete, simple, clean themes that have more padding ? I like how GNOME looks but I really dislike their slow development for gaming related stuff.

So, I have a Home Assistant VM that I need to bridge to my LAN, it’s network interface “vnet1” is a member of bridge0, I tried adding eno1 (Host NIC) to bridge0 but I lose LAN access to my server. How should I do it ?

I'm planning to buy Smart TVs for my house and I wanted to know which TV OS has better support for homelab media apps.

    Self-Hosted apps:

    • Jellyfin
    • Immich
    • Nextcloud Memories
    • Funkwhale or Navidrome or Mopidy
    • AudioBookShelf

    Non-selfhosted apps I use:

    • Steam Link

    • YouTube, YT Kids
    • YouTube Music
    • Spotify

Anyone tried this? Works perfectly for me. Any reason why I should go back to the OpenBoard fork with Swipe?

    store.steampowered.com Overwatch® 2 on Steam

Overwatch 2 is a critically acclaimed, team-based shooter game set in an optimistic future with an evolving roster of heroes. Team up with friends and jump in today.

On Bottles with the default runner I always had the mouse focus glitch. On Steam Proton Experimental it works great! If you play on BNet, I suggest you switch to Steam.

I didn't want to editorialize the title, the linked article is an old post. But with the Nitrux 2.9.1 launch, I wanted to bring a bit of light into how VMetal works.

    Short summary: ---

    > VMetal allows users to run Windows in parallel to Nitrux with the aim to provide users of access to Windows software meanwhile they can still use their Linux desktop at the same time.

    > VMetal is not a wrapper or a compatibility layer; it makes use of QEMU and KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) on the software side and of VFIO and IOMMU on the hardware side, meaning that Windows is accessing directly the hardware that it utilizes.
