I really want to get into this game, but I find the base building and resource hunting/inventory management to be incredibly tedious and not straight forward. Maybe I'm in the minority on that front or haven't spent enough time with it, open to hearing others thoughts on what I might be doing wrong.
That said, I'm very intrigued to jump in again with this update.
For me I usually buy almost all my resources and have this HUUUGE stockpile. But what you pointed out is just how the game is and that may not be for you
Again for me NMS is and on off game, I play during expeditions, sometimes get a huge interest to play the shnikees out of it (like these past couple weeks) then the game vibes in my library for a while until the next interest spike or expedition
Okay noob question here, but how the fuck do I actually buy things? I fly to the anomaly and there's no vendors, I fly to the space station and as far as I can tell no vendors. I want to buy oxygen, sodium, basics like that, on top of space ship parts but the most I can find is a small terminal on a mostly deserted planet that sells like four things and buys almost nothing.
It's very intense in the begining, because you're thrown onto a random planet at first with a ray gun that absorbs materials.......at a painstaking slow rate.
Eventually, once you get over the hurdle, you'll start making massive amounts of cash quickly. Then you'll just buy materials in bulk, store them, and never harvest ever again.
But those first few hours? It's rough. My first planet was a highly toxic planet. So I had to build a base IMMEDIATELY without materials. And the whole time you can only be out there for a few minutes at a time, before you need to hop back into your ship (you don't need to take off), just to catch your breath. Eventually I could use the base to catch my breath, but that was only after I harvested materials, and built the most basic ass 1x1 base, and later expanded on it.
But once you get over the hump of not having money, you'll be fine.
I'd give you support on how to get money, but that's a slight spoiler. I'll just say that once you figure things out, money is never an issue.
Are there any trustworthy guides? I'm in the same boat as the person you responded to, but that "intensity" you mentioned just makes me feel stressed and lost
Alright, you've convinced me to give it another go with this in the back of my mind. I think maybe I didn't stick it out at my first base long enough and only ended up with a few very small bases on various planets and ended up struggling to get a hold of fuel to keep going. I was constantly running out of fuel and ended up getting marooned on hostile planets without supplies to get off or build a base up quickly enough.
You're not, it's a common problem with large scale open world games. Definitely something you have to brute force at times, but luckily most of the essential grind in this game can be done pretty quick.
I just bought the game yesterday and I'm finding the crafting, building tedious too. Especially the learning process is top-heavy for me, since I was looking for a mental pause. But I haven't tried creative mode which I assume is more like that.
The update took me by surprise, coming one day after I bought it. I'll stick with the game for now and see if I get the hang of flying the ship a bit better. The option to buy stuff sounds good but I hope that's in-game currency and not real money :)
It's in game currency. I bought the game years ago, and have yet to spend any more money on it. The developers felt bad that at launch years and years ago, the game was so unfinished that it was called a scam. So they've been uploading free content, and updates ever since. At this point, I'm fairly sure most people would agree that they've lived up to the original promises and then some, but they still keep cranking out updates. Hey, I'm not complaining.
I would say more specific things, but I don't want to spoil it. Playing the game is the experience, and the experience IS the game. If you come into this game thinking "I'M GOING TO MAKE ALL THE MONEY AND GET ALL THINGS!!!" then you're missing the point of the game. The journey is the experience. Think of it like getting a bunch of random assorted legos, rather than a lego kit. The fun is in the creativity of what you do with it.
Same, and I thought the "I" was just a separator... So I got to be excited all over again once I realized this implies there may be "Part 2" at some point.
Dammit! I just saw this 2 hours ago on my youtube feed. I was going to come here and be like "GUYS!!! YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS!!!". Then I'd post the video, and everybody would love me, and the whole world would crowd surf me around the nation, and chant my name, and make me king of the universe!!!
Yeah!!! That's how that would have happened!!!
But, you beat me to it........gosh darnit! That was my chance to make George Clooney illegal! That smug bastard....
