Played it on PC and it's really cool, although I was hesitant at first considering it looks a bit like those cookie cutter role based rpgs that just want to rent a spot in your wallet.
There a particular reason for the "humanity is doomed" remark or just being dramatic? I looked it up expecting some sort of privacy nightmare or micro transaction hell but I really don't see any mentions of that, hell reviews seem pretty positive.
I think it just implies that since it's out on a platform that pretty much everyone has access to, global productivity will plummet due to everyone playing it and getting addicted
My friend has 1000+ hours in Slay the Spire. A game that can scratch the same itch as Balatro. He has been playing on the PC and has claimed he will be splitting his time from now on. I too really like it, it's a perfect chill game. I think a lot of 'normie' gamers are picking it up since the game is so easy for some to pick up as one main mechanic is just knowing poker hands. My dad who plays Tetris and solitaire really likes it.
I’m having trouble finding the link this moment but I remember reading about a billionaire or ceo public figure who is addicted to this game saying that productivity around the world will crash once this game was released on mobile platforms.
Edit: not some billionaire ceo. It was this link I was remembering:
Fun game. I don't usually go in for card games, so I ignored the hype, but this is a good one. Got to ante 4 a few times over the last couple of hours before rng killed me. I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of this one
I saw this Lemmy post and then bought Balatro and started playing it. Afterward I was browsing Lemmy, saw this post again, and was reminded I had more Balatro to play. I'm stuck in an infinite loop.
I've played it for too many hours to count, but gave up at the higher difficulty due to the uncontrollable RNG, you do have to reroll seeds if you want to beat it . Not sure if they reduced the randomness somehow
Once you understand the game mechanics rng becomes much less of a factor. There definitely still is some, it is a roguelike after all, that is part of the fun imo. But it's really not too bad. I find most times that I lose I could have made a better decision somewhere in the run that would have avoided it.
I bought it on Android and there are no in app purchases. Supposedly that was because it was going to be released as a demo with 'pay to unlock full game' functionality and that was canned for a full release. IDK about that but it's the full game for 10 USD in my area
Well, I'm not in a Balatro-period right now, but when the itch comes back I'll probably buy it for mobile as well.
Are you aware of any platform affordances that have been made for mobile in this release, or is it basically the same as the unofficial ports you can DIY?
