While her suicide attempt did not end her life, it did leave her with severe brain damage.
Oh shit. This outcome was always the biggest deterrent when I was suicidal. I can’t imagine a worse outcome than surviving but having your life significantly impaired forever. That includes successful suicide, imo.
It literally says they did in the summery directly above where you type to comment. As well as a section of the article complete with bolded lettering.
But yeah the entire thing is horrible. The schools response is horrific too.
Not for everyone. This is a social media platform. If you want restrictions on people engaging in conversation than maybe you should try a different platform.
They stated that they had conducted investigations into the allegations at the time. "While we do not agree with the allegations, our hearts go out to Kelaia Tecora Turner, her mother, and their family."
The usual "There is no bullying at our school. We know, as we forbid any mentioning or reporting it."
Yup, not surprised. The shooting that the high school near me was because the shooter and his sister were bullied so much, the principal that knew about it and ignored it was one of the two deaths. Now, over a year later, bullying is still rampant, but the principal has multiple memorials, murals, and dedications strewn across the school property. Nothing for or about the other kid that died either.
It was during this time that Kelaia's bullies visited her at the ICU. They took and later posted pictures of the unconscious Turnery in an outrageous mockery.
"Kelaia has no control currently over her body. She's total care, nonverbal, on a trach, on a feeding tube. She requires around the clock care that, for the most part, is administered by her father and I, we've recently gotten the help of a nurse three days a week. It's an absolute mountain," Turner said."
That's so terribly sad. And they even mocked her in the ICU, which is fucking psychotic. As a heavily bullied kid, also called a "roach," my heart breaks for her. She just wanted to be free from it all.
I just watched the internet short "Piggy" (it's on YouTube) which made my blood boil but it has a nice ending. It's just a revenge fantasy film, but it shows quite nicely how insanely cruel some kids can be, especially once they get into a little group / troupe, and become the "leader" of sorts.
For those being bullied: take martial arts classes. Kyokushin karate, for example, is full contact focussed on actual fighting. Once it came out that I did, people backed off without me doing anything. Within a year it improved my self confidence to such a degree that I was no longer scared and I was never bullied again. I want from being on the cusp of ending it to actually defending other bullied kids.
If you ever have to face a group of bullies like that, go for the leader. The rest of the group just hangs around and once the leader lies bleeding on the ground, the rest will run.
