Congratulations are in order, I think! Happy for you for taking care of your fam and escaping our crazy country. Most importantly, I hope a lot of stress has been relieved for you all and you can be much less stressed job hunting. At any rate, almost any job that will hire you should work for now, just to get you stabilised there. Best of luck in your job search and happy holiday ahead.
I’ve been dabbling with the idea of moving to the UK with my spouse, but we haven’t seriously pursued it. We loved visiting multiple times and enjoyed the vibe. This inspires me to take a look into it further. I’m a software engineer working remotely and I’m curious if my company would let me move abroad. I’m going to talk to my spouse more seriously about this over the winter holiday and see what happens. We’re both sad about the US - I really thought and believed that the people in this country were inherently good and decent and wouldn’t let it fall to Fascism. Constitution over cult. Boy did it hurt to find out how wrong I was. Feel like we also need to escape, and if we can’t get across the pond, at least moving to a progressive state is in order.
I am looking all over. As long as I can get a job, that's where I'll live. The goal is to just get my daughter (who is queer) out of the U.S. where she'll be safer.
Obviously you will end up where you end up, but I'd advocate for my current corner of the country in the north west (Manchester & Liverpool) as being particularly friendly and open minded places
Edit: might take you a week or two to get an ear for the accents though haha
Brexit may have made life more difficult for many British people, but hey, at least the passports are blue now.
(In case you don't know, British passports were dark red when we were in the EU - in keeping with other EU passports - and when Britain left the EU, the government decided to make passports blue like they were in the olden days, because they thought this would appeal to boomers)
