After shutting down several popular emulators, Nintendo admits emulation is legal

Nintendo's top IP lawyer agreed that emulators are technically legal at a panel for intellectual property rights. The legal status of emulators is still largely untested. Nintendo shut down several emulation projects last year, including Yuzu, Citra, and Ryujinx. Nintendo knows that emulation is legal, but developers are walking a tightrope. πŸ–‹οΈπŸ€–

We learned just how small Valve really is this year, but also how good it is at raking in the cash: It's making more money per employee than Apple

Court documents show that in 2024, Valve had just 336 employees. Of those 336 employees, only 79 were directly working on Steam. In terms of headcount, Valve is significantly smaller than even Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios. But in terms of how much money it makes per employee, Valve towers over the giants. πŸ–‹οΈπŸ€–

The Last Of Us Part II will require a PSN account to play on PC, making it unplayable in over 100 countries

The Last Of Us Part II requires a PSN account to play on PC. This means the game won't go on sale in certain countries. This is despite the fact that many of these games are entirely single player. Sony's reasons for enforcing the requirement remain obscure. It seems a stupid strategy to exclude entire countries of possible sales just to enforce a DRM policy. πŸ–‹οΈπŸ€–

60 Percent Of Playtime In 2023 Went To 6-Year-Old Or Older Games, New Data Shows

A newly released game industry report by market researcher Newzoo shows that while the PC and console market grew 2.6 percent in 2023, overall playtime decreased. The top 10 games on each platform (ranked by their average number of monthly active users, or MAU) are filled with old, established titles. πŸ–‹οΈπŸ€–
