The Witcher 4 devs want their new RPG to be a good entry point, even if you didn't play The Witcher 3

I have a lot of criticism for The Witcher 3, but one thing I really appreciated was making lore and character background available for reading. It really helped with this newcomer's understanding of the world and story. (And later, with my understanding of the TV series.)

Isn't that the goal of every game sequel?
- Well, it is now that every game takes so long to develop. That’s the unfortunate part of long dev cycles. Imagine asking people to play morrowind before recommending Skyrim to them. That seems wild but then you remember how long it took to get games like Fallout 4 or breath of the wild. Don’t do that and you end up with a series like Metro which are amazing games but have prerequisites that lead to a more niche following.

  I normally wouldn't start a game which has a sequel before playing the former titles, TW3 was an exception though.
- I'm guessing you've never played bioware games.
As long as they don’t overpromise and underdeliver that’s fine by me
I hope they’ve been working on a really good new fight that I have have a thousand times over.
- They botched a release, worked their arses off and fixed their mistake, and released a well received dlc after focusing on that. The fucking horror.
- Cyberpunk 2077 is now a really fucking good game. Seriously. Play it nowadays. It's very much a NMS story.
  
  TW3 is a really fucking good game. CP2077 is fine, better than it was.
  
  That speaks a lot about the dev Commitments but the lore is simply not at the same standard.
- Witcher 3 had a bad release as well
- You see, this is good. Unhealthy expectations from CP2077 were part of the problem.
