Awww yeah, first time I got in first with the daily thread.
I don't have anything interesting to talk about but I like reading about everyone's days. I only have to do a half day of work today to hit my hours for the week, so that's nice. Gonna play more Baldurs Gate when I get home, such a good game.
I'm definitely going to give it a go, it looks great. NO SPOILERS!
I've only seen about 30 seconds of it and the graphics are excellent. She's got a 1080 so top of the line 3 generations ago, but still, seems very well optimised.
I’m enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I had to restart the other day though because I messed up and ended up not be able to get Wyll or Karlach into my party.
I'm contemplating a similar day of work, ended up doing a couple of OOH jobs and its basically my choice whether to claim OT or just use those hours as I see fit.
I'm playing BG3 twice at the moment. Once with a group of friends, and then just behind where we are at with the story i'm running it solo as well. Mostly because these guys are super trigger happy and don't mind murdering all the civs whereas in my solo one i'm trying not to be so horrible.
Got a load of compost being dropped off this morning, prepping myself to move it as fast as I can so as to not block our driveway. Feels good to be getting the garden and raised beds ready for Spring.
How big is your garden? I love the idea of growing my own veges but I tried it this year and couldn't get past my dislike of ants and spiders enough to actually bring much of it indoors.
It’s not very large and kind of oddly shaped, but the previous owner did nothing with it so it was all grass when we moved in. Each year I turn a bit more of it into planting space. I’m at the point I’m thinking of just wood chipping the rest of the lawn next autumn so I can plant anywhere from then on. Also bonus is I won’t have to mow it anymore.
The place we recently moved into has a bit of a garden bed area, but we think (looking at sun charts etc), that it will only be getting good sun for 4~6 months a year. Hopefully we can get something done with that time period as we're pretty keen to doing some gardening :)
Will need to do a few trips soon to buy some compost etc.
I'll make a suggestion - take it or leave it - but I can vouch for it 👍
Go "No Dig", I've been doing this for a while now and can say it is one of the easiest and best ways to garden. To get started you need cardboard (or similar) and either buy in compost or work on making your own. Obviously, no digging is required. Simple as...
I highly recommend spending some time watching Charles Dowdings' youtube channel - he has books too, but the detail on youtube is all you need.
The soil I've developed with this method is so much better than I have ever had before, and I just don't find the need to use any chemicals/fertilizers. We buy very little/no vegetables now! The quality of our veg. has improved using this method too. (Shit, that almost sound like I'm trying to sell you something - I'm not... 😜)
Don’t overthink it too much, you’d be surprised what you can still grow in suboptimal conditions. I experiment all the time with different plants in different locations to see how well they grow, sometimes bad sometimes good.
Every year I would do many trips to buy bags of compost slowly, I decided this year just to buy it from a landscaping place and get it delivered. It’s a bit more expensive but I can get 1000L at once instead of 40L bags. I still can’t create enough compost myself for the whole garden.
Working on keeping power falling out of the walls for everyone, maintenence at a power station. It's been a busy week, I'll be glad to wrap this one up and chill for the next couple of days. The forecast is OK so might mow the lawns or something this weekend.
Brrrrr just a bit of a Fibre Rant so that I don't blow lol.
Been playing phone tag with Chorus and the ISP this morning. Was getting nowhere with the ISP over the last few weeks, so called Chorus directly today, and they have me a whole bunch of nothing saying they are waiting on UCG to redo a design plan, and that they can't chase them up during this stage, and that contacting my ISP would be the best bet.
Called the ISP straight after, and of course, predictably they just go off the notes they get from Chorus, and say they can't do any chasing.
I can't prove it of course, but I really think the techs that came to scope the site didn't want to do the job, so they've made up some excuse.
The notes from Chorus apparantly state that the job was originally logged as an SDU - which doesn't make sense as why would they go through a consents process with our neighbors for a SDU installation (we had confirmation the process has begun and later on that it had ended)? (and we had raised it as an MDU installation). Tried calling them out on that, and no real answer for it.
So apparantly we're basically restarting the whole process, this time "correctly" as an MDU 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Is anyone using Bard or ChatGPT for anything? I’m using them, especially Bard, for its more detailled and responsive web search ability. I no longer need to write detailed tech reports, thank you age, but I can see how this AI stuff would help.
