As long as we don’t start the gif versus gif pronunciation debate here.
15ReplyLet's just settle on calling it gif here on Lemmy and leave it at that
13ReplyNo way you're going to convince me to call it gif

I have a friend named Geoff who pronounces the g in gif like the word "gift". Whenever he says it, I'll make sure I start saying his name with the G pronounced the same way.

Wow that's weird, connect is playing it in the thumbnail while I'm scrolling past it.
11ReplyYeah! Connect got dope fast!
2ReplyVoyager returns to where you were on scrolling after you comment. Connect would just make your refresh the entire thread. Connect supports responding with pictures though...

Wonder if other animated image types work too.
8Replyyeah me too, there is the fpeg animated file format, probs some others. i wonder if lemmy has an "officially supported file formats" page?
2Reply.gif files basically aren't used anywhere anymore, gif has just become a term for short videos without sound.
For example imgur coverts all gifs and similar to .mp4 files since it's a much more efficient format.
Video formats like mp4 work I believe.
