Mark Carney signals a pivot away from U.S. defense dependence.
Trump said Canada could join the system for free if it becomes the 51st U.S. state. If not, it would cost $61 billion.

Carney said his government is working quickly to join the EU-led “ReArm Europe” program, which plans to invest $1.25 trillion in defense over the next five years.
“Seventy-five cents of every dollar spent on defense goes to the United States. That’s not a smart move,” Carney told host David Cochrane.

Over a 5 year span and thats the total estimate for all of the EU. 5% Total GDP, 3.5% goes to military and 1.5% goes to others like cyber security

That would be amazing if it was easy. The EU is a political mess and adding more states would add stressful complexity. It's a peace time project and peace currently has a gun to it's head.

I'm pretty sure rearm europe (or SAFE as I think they want to rename it) has the intent of spending with local defence companies, moving away from us spend which is why the US is so against it
