  • Canadian here. My son just had an ear infection that was lasting 3 days. On the 3rd morning we called our doctors office to have it checked. They were able to squeeze us in at noon. Took him, and they couldn't tell if it was viral or bacterial, so suggested we wait and see if it clears. Didn't clear after another 2 days, but it was the weekend now. Called 811 and they contacted a medical center to make us an appointment in the morning. Next morning (Sunday now) office called us, made an appointment and saw him again. This time we got a prescription for some antibiotics.

I've taken a course about anti-microbial resistance and I understand that doctors are instructed not to go with antibiotics first thing so it didn't really bother me to go back a second time. It was nice they it was easy to be seen again even if it wasn't with the family doctor.

Calgary set to reintroduce fluoride to its water supply on Monday

  • $135 million in wasted vaccines is a failure if the government to either plan for procurement or get the word out to people. Since Marlaina became premier, communication about covid has become almost nonexistent. This is a huge failure of the government.

  • The deceased lived in the US for their entire adult life. It's not like a tourist was snatched and died in custody. First, everybody should be outraged about this type of treatment happening to a human being, but there's no reason for Canada to have anything more to do with this.

  • On top of that, some rooms don't have proper cold air return to the furnace, meaning those rooms don't get proper air circulation and can be the reason for a room being warm. I'm experiencing this right now. One bedroom has a cold air return on the other side of the wall, but nothing in the room itself, and it's the hottest room in the house. I gotta cut an entry to that cold air return duct.

Podcast episode featuring Tim Russ - Go Fact Yourself episode 170

This is my favourite podcast. It features two contestants who are minor celebrities and asks them for three topics outside their field of work in which they are experts in, and then crafts a trivia quiz for them. Finally they bring in an expert to evaluate their responses, and the show is able to get some amazing experts who are a joy to listen to and usually the response from the contestent meeting the expert is incredibly wholesome.

This episode features Tim Russ so I thought the TenForward community might like it. There also some additional Star Trek trivia and personalities even during the part of the episode that features the other contestant Amber Nelson.

Tim Russ's three topics are - Astronomy, Alien invasion movies of the 1950s and 60s, and World War II. You can find out more about why Tim was intereted in these topics.

Also noteable quote from the episide: "I think Tim might be the center of the universe!"

Jets earn first Presidents' Trophy in franchise history

There's been a lot of up and down with this team. Coaching changes and forced trades that have actually turned out pretty well. Very proud of the team for being the best in the NHL.

Let's stop playing around and talk about ditching something big: Visa and Mastercard

Visa and Mastercard are American companies, and they essentially tax everybody by taking a percentage of purchase prices for themselves. Not exactly a small percentage either, 1.2% to 2.65%. Ever wonder why so many merchants say they don't accept American Express? That's because they charge quite a bit more to merchantes, 50% more than Visa or Mastercard. Anyway, we're letting American companies tax us and we love them because we get rewards when we use cards. But it's just a shell game because we pay more up front because businesses need to charge more to make up for payment processing charges. They get to sit in the middle and rake in the money.

Now the alternative in Canada is Interac. Interac charges a set amount per transcation. How much? 2 to 5.5 cents. Unless you're going through Apple or Google Pay, and then i

Need an alternate to Adams Dark Roast Peanut Butter

This has been the best peanut butter I've ever had, but it's a product of the USA. I just love the taste the dark roast adds. I've never seen any other brands that do the same thing. Any suggestions out there?

    Went to the hardware store

Discovered that one of my lights was getting dimmer because halogen bulbs were burning out. This is a new house and I thought it was already an LED fixture. Got 3 new LED bulbs to make that area nice and bright.

Also discovered the house has metal studs when I went to mount the TV. bought some metal anchors. Never worked with metal studs before. Hope it turns out.

Its been a pretty fun start to the season. Just really don't want the streak to end to the Leafs, but I'm kinda expecting it.
