    Bring back 24 hour Walmarts
  • I had a late shift job that was 6pm - 2am. I'd usually run to walmart or other 24hr grocery stores to do my food shopping for the week after my shift. It was always a breeze not having to deal with lines or traffic. The caveat being some crackheads just doing normal 2am crackhead things in front of the store.

Techies, what's your personal data storage setup (photos, music, movies, docs) and what do you recommend everyone should be using?
  • I've got a beginner 2 bay NAS set up with about 18TB for all my family's media.

Pictures from our phones are also backed up in Google Photos. Not private at all but it works as an off site option.

Urban communities that lack shade sizzle when it's hot. Trees are a climate change solution
  • It's been a trend in my town to cut down shade giving trees because their leaves are too much maintenance to clean. When in reality they don't want to pay someone to use a leaf blower for 20 minutes.

Where do the rural homeless near you live?
  • There's a camp in the bushes behind our local bar. The bar is near a boat harbor as well so there's water faucets where they usually shower. It's a relatively small camp with about a dozen or so residents.

Omnipresent AI cameras will ensure good behavior, says Larry Ellison
  • He proposed a shitty Art Park on Lanai, the island he bought the majority of, and wanted to set up surveillance to stop "vandals".

Worked on the plumbing for the fountains he wanted to building. Those surveillance measures never came to be, yet...

If there was any object in your life that was cursed, what would it be?
  • My In-Laws house has some BAD juju for sure.

-Had an uncle pass away in it

-Multiple pets run over in the driveway

-Bad experiences living there when we moved back home and we looking for a place

-Bonus Room flooded MULTIPLE due to MIL not understanding how retaining walls work.

Just a cursed place in general and I'm glad I'm nowhere near that house.

ELI5 How come it seems now the old wise tale of Vietnamese eating pets and now its immigrants into the USA?
  • The "immigrant" group to shit on changes every so often where I live.

But when it changes the SAME rumors get saddled on to the new group.

"X group eats pets, better be careful around them."

"Y group will take your dog and butcher it. Better be watchful"

  • After having the XL versions of Pixels before this one, the size isn't so bad. Its usable in one hand and I've been really liking the flat edges/screen.

The battery is almost the same as my 6 Pro toward the end of its life.

The display resolution looks really good in person. I really appreciate the brighter screen so that more than makes up for the lack of sharpness compared to the 6 Pro.

Cameras are great as usual for these phones. I didn't realize how many features they added on to Pixels since the 6 line.

The AI features are gimmicky and I'll just leave it at that.

A solid 8/10 phone for me. Definitely feels like an upgrade even for a base model.

    How's everyone liking/disliking theirs?

    All kept in my bag.

Been really liking the OEM Stretch bands from the Google Store. Great for daily use and sleep tracking. Pretty expensive so I waited for a sale.

280mm AIO kept the 12600K ridiculously cool. Custom 3D printed feet so I wouldn't need to buy a right angled displayport adapter.

Eventually bought a bracket to get a 92mm fan mounted at the top of the case to keep the 3080FE cool in this sandwich layout.
