Their Bionic Eyes Are Now Obsolete and Unsupported
  • tech CEO's that refuse to release the source code of medical devices should be tried and convicted on crimes against humanity and face execution. only by releasing the source code can they be freed.

Their Bionic Eyes Are Now Obsolete and Unsupported
  • actually kill people for not releasing source code for medical devices, make it an actual capital offense. if someone cannot at will see the code in their own body, then their basic bodily autonomy has been undermined.

Threads accounts will be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol.
  • It aleady has been. Anything, anything publicly posted and available will be harvested by, at a minimum, Google spiders. The only privacy benefits of any site can only be promises that they won't share the information that you don't publicly list.

And even then,.all it takes is the feds raiding a dipshit Kolektiva admin to get that information illegally anyways.

Do not organize serious actions over social media. At most, hold sensitive discussions over private, E2E encrypted chats like Matrix.

Spending a few days with Hyprland made me realize how awesome Gnome is
  • Starting with someone's dotfiles is a much better way to start with these minimalist window managers. You can see what they did and only tweak the the things you want to work different. Still not as easy as a DE's unified settings, but if you like that fine grained control it can be worthwhile. My setup is quite basic, but having everything bound to the keys I want lets me do what I want quickly.

What are some must-have browser settings and add-ons?
  • More generally, just use Libredirect and avoid using a ton of important but shitty websites. Breezewiki in particular is fantastic, so much faster than Fandom and it'll redirect you to a game's actual official wiki since Fandom SEO's itself to the top even when it has shitty misinformation and isn't maintained.

What single item improved the quality of your life over you got it? (Buyed it/got as present/made it)
  • 64 ounce Stanley water jug. I throw ice in it and I have something cold to drink all day. It's beautiful.

Bidet has been good though now it feels gross to shit at work and my politics demand I shit at work.

Contact grill, ie a GE brand George Foreman. I can't fuck up flippimg shit if I'm frying both sides simultaneously. And a food thermometer so my colorblind ass isn't relying on mom's shit advice to just cook it until it's brown.

This battery car starter / tire infator / phone charger. I have used it with some frequency, but more often I can just roll up and fix someone's car problem super quick. I even get out of work with it a lot when a customer needs someone to jump their car or fix a flat (also keep a tire patch kit obv).

All of this is bought from thrift stores. I can only assume most of my shit was originally shoplifted, it's fantastic. There is just so much good shit being sold for almost nothing, I am the KING of expired Chips Ahoy.

Google Pixel 8 Pro Tensor G3 Is A Disaster In Genshin Impact Gaming Test - YouTube
  • My main reason for buying a 6 refurbished was GrapheneOS. Beyond that, it's a phone without an SD card slot or an easily replacee battery. When this phone gets an issue I can't fix, I'll probably re-evaluate what to get - hopefully still a GrapheneOS phone but more repaiarable and expandable.

YouTube's anti-adblock rollout has finally arrived for Firefox users
  • Libredirect in general is fantastic, a lot of shit websites become so much more usable. In particular not having to use Fandom is a godsend, that website in particular is just awful.

YouTube's anti-adblock rollout has finally arrived for Firefox users
  • it uses barely anything. youtube-tui is a TUI not CLI, you can click on shit and it'll run on hardware that for some reason cannot handle freetube of all things. you will have to set up mpv or something for most leaner alternatives to get video running on hardware that modest.

What non-IDE tekst editor do you use?
  • Neovim can can certainly be an IDE, but its complexity comes from having a lot of features to rapidly edit text. d5d deletes 5 lines, vwwy selects two words and yanks them, gg returns to the beginning of the file, etc. It'll maybe do some code highlighting out of the box but its featureset is about never needing to touch a mouse or leave home row.

It's about like notepad++ on Windows in that it's very good for quick edits of a file or otherwise manipulating plaintext but it isn't good out of the box for actual writing meant to be read by other human beings.

    Please, do not use Brave.
  • I have exactly one use for Brave and that has been Steam Deck's game mode as Firefox's context menus don't work in gamescope, and Brave at the time seemed like the best ad blocking Chromium alternative. Apparently it's not, so fuck it.
