I want to mount a printed part to a standard 2mm motor axis which doesn't have any dents or profile. Its just round. If I print at exactly 2mm, it fits for the first few times until it gets too lose and the spinning part sometimes falls off.

I am trying to send an email from an alias with simplelogin. I went to their website and clicked the contact link, but after sending the email, I looked in the headers and saw my real email with my real name. Is this on my side or can the recipient also see my real name? If so, how to turn this off?

I am using the Creality ender 3 v3 SE with eSuns PLA+ in black. The recommended printing temperature is 205-220 and I am printing at 210. The bed is set to 65°. When I print somewhat flat parts. The edges warp off the plate, while the printer is running and the plate is still hot. Until a few days ago it worked perfectly and I don't know what I am doing different.

It is always only the first few layers, and the print never moves, so that the printer would make spaghetti, its just the edges that lift of a few millimeters.

Upgrading cheap/old computer
  • Some addition to my post: The computer I found is a Fujitsu Esprimo Q957. I've read online that they are very power efficient and don't draw as much. I will probably run some lightweight task almost 24/7 and sometimes heavier tasks for short periods of time. A raspberry pi is for me too expensive for the average specs, even if it is very efficient. I think a upgradable pc or mini pc is best, because they are cheap, but can be easily upgraded without buying a whole new computer.

  • I am thinking about buying a home server for a wide range of things. I found some cheap old computers on amazon for around 80-90€. Is it worth it to upgrade them with another stick of ram or a larger SSD? 2 8gb RAM sticks are only around 15€, so that would be 100 in total. But my question is, is it worth it, or is the CPU the limiting factor. Some of them have one from the pentium series. Also, is 15€ for 2x8gb DDR4 RAM normal (not too cheap)? Maybe you have other ideas for a cheap home server. In my case I don't think a 90€ raspberry pi is worth it

    Bike helmets suggestions needed !
  • I mean I could buy a helmet with more holes or without thick padding inside for it to be cooler, and add more layers if I get too cold.

  • I have one for mildly hot temperature. If it gets cold I put something below it that covers my ears, like a thin beanie or a type of Balaclava made for biking for really cold temperatures. If its too hot, I just suffer.

    Alternative to GrapheneOS
  • I dont know. Its not that I dislike pixels, I just liked the concept of Fairphones. And I just never thought about google phones because I thought google and privacy don’t match, even if I have a different OS installed.

    Alternative to GrapheneOS
  • I do consider the missing headphone jack a problem, but are other brands better? I did not research any of this, but don‘t other brands do the same. Considering this, I think Fairphone is one of the better phone producers. Im not saying they are the best or that they do nothing wrong. And please correct me if I’m wrong, I think the high prices come from the higher loans and better quality materials than other brands.

How can everything be captured in simple data like people's exact voice noise?
  • Yes, monkeys could type out the zeros and ones. In fact we (not the monkeys) kind of did. There is a library of babel for audio named the sound library of babel which contains every 15 seconds audio recording you can imagine. Every single one. Almost all of them are white noise, but still there are recordings of every human saying any words in 15 seconds.

  • Im considering buying a new phone and i don't really consider a Pixel. I really like Fairphones approach, with the self repairable stuff. Even though they don‘t have a headphone jack. But well… I can’t change it. I’ll definitely go with the adapter over wireless headphones.

But to my question: What private OSes are there? Fairphone sells FP4s with eOS, how is that? And does it work on the FP5? GrapheneOS only works on Google Pixels right?

ELI5: What kind of security mechanisms do software companies use to ensure that the source code of their products will be practically impossible to discover?
  • TL;DR: They can‘t. Apps are not encrypted and could be read by anyone that has access to the application files

But it is not as easy as it sounds:

There is a saying „Everything is open source if you can read assembly.“ And this is true (for most cases)

They cant encrypt their code because you phone has to be able to read it, and therefore you could.

But the applications are compiled, meaning a application called the compiler turns the readable code in form of text to binary, which can be read and executed by a computer. Reading binary is (almost) impossible for a human, but there are applications called decompilers which turn binary back to code, but most of the time to assembly which is hard (but not impossible) to read. You could post this online, but very few people would be able to understand this. Turning it back into normal code would require way too much effort.

But there are other problems with reading source code (specifically for ios):

    1. You have to get acces to the compiled application which will require you to jailbreak you phone. Only then you can access system files.
    2. Code for different chip types are compiled differently, and im not sure if there is a decompiler for the type used by ios chips.
    3. Since the binary is different, the assembly code is different, which means you habe to learn to read ios-decompiled-assembly specifically.

Good used cameras on Facebook marketplace...?
  • I‘ve looked again and some of them are up a few weeks, but the ones closer to me are kinda better. Just the a7iii body for 550, but this offer has also been up nearly half a year. But they are close enough that I could go there.

  • Ive looked around a bit for cheap cameras from sony‘s alpha 7 series and found some 3‘s with the kit lens for less than 500€ or the 4 with lens for around 600€. Are they legit or are they scams/fakes/not working? Whats your advice or experience? On other platforms for used stuff they rarely go below 800 without a kit lens

Installed GrapheneOS for the first time
  • Every step you take towards a more private digital life is essential. I mean you have to start somewhere right? And the phone is in my opinion the biggest privacy thread out there. I am not on GrapheneOS but I’m considering switching soon.

    Privacy.com in Europe?
  • No. It’s not as popular. In Germany most have a giro-card, but credit cards are becoming more popular. Many still prefer cash though.

  • Is there something similar to privacy.com in Europe so I don’t have to enter my credit card information everywhere? Or another way to buy stuff online privately on many different stores and websites?
