Should we stop splitting sports by gender and just let everybody compete together?
  • As the shortest person in most Basketball games during my childhood, I would have loved this so much! I enjoyed the game very much, but I always had to work twice as hard as my taller friends.

    Are the straights okay rule
  • Depends on the part of the world you live in. I'm that age and coworkers (!) constantly joke about having to find me a wife and find it a bit odd that I'm not even in a long-time relationship yet.

I had this colleague a few years back who was 28-29 at the time, and people were bad-mouthing him because he wasn't married, saying that something must be wrong with him. Societal pressure is very strong here.

You wouldn't believe this is happening in the EU, right?

People warn about culture shock, but nothing prepared ne for this solid toilet paper roll in Vietnam
  • These exist and are widely used in rural Romania. Even public institutions like schools and town halls use these there. They're not the worst you can get though. About 10-15 years ago you'd also stumble across houses that had no toilet paper, just newspapers. You were supposed to wipe with those. Not a fun experience!

    Poorly socialized rule
  • It sucks. As a dude, I feel it's almost impossible to balance being confident and approaching women you don't know and also not being a creep or bothering them. I'm not the best but not the worst when it comes to looks, I have many friends of different genders (shoutout to my enby fellows who have to deal with this mess and also discrimination) and I'm confident in most things I do aside from dating. It's gotten to the point I just won't ask women out due to anxiety over coming across as a creep or bothering them, and instead endure loneliness. Which is not great, but it is what it is.

Wow, they really attacked gamers. Conservatives speedrunning how to be hated by everybody.
  • "Angry bitter pathetic woke feminist betraying the white race by refusing to grow up, who actually wants to have kids but is too ugly to attract even a beta cuck"

God I feel filthy just writing that, I can't imagine how people are okay thinking things even a quarter as nasty as that.

what's with the anti-left sentiment on slrpnk?
  • Oh, that's cool! I think they were fully closed when I tried to join due to the huge influx of users, but it's a very fair method of admitting new users then!

what's with the anti-left sentiment on slrpnk?
  • I'd argue Lemmygrad is worse than .ml

.ml has people on it that aren't into politics or that discuss other things, due to having been the largest instance when the Reddit api fiasco happened. Many people choose to stay there simply out of laziness or reasons other than ideology.

Lemmygrad and Hexbear are, on the other hand, explicitly political and have certain ideologies as themes which inherently create conflict/discourse with people of other ideologies.

On that note, is slrpnk open registration now? It wasn't when I joined Lemmy, .ml was the only one I could join at that time.

    totally equal
  • This issue doesn't stem from the left, it stems from many self-proclaimed centrists actually espousing right wing ideology to the point it has become almost a dogwhistle.

Some subreddits could be paywalled, hints Reddit CEO
  • If Reddit pulls these kinds of moves two more times or so, I'm 100% certain Lemmy will have all the niche communities you'd ever want. This place is much better!

There are too many of these people on lemmy
  • From what I've seen, there's a big divide amongst the tankies. There are those who are basically Stalin MAGA, base their political opinions on Soviet aesthetics and don't consider much the practical implications of their actions. Some simply lash out against mainstream liberal ideology and others are just trolls.

Ane the other camp is made of people who read a lot of communist philosophy and are absolutely convinced the only way to achieve an equal society is by forcing everyone into it. This has its own problems, but they at least have an internally coherent ideology.

That's not to say I agree with either camp. Their ideology promotes a vanguard party which can quickly spiral into "some are more equal than others". Absolute power corrupts absolutely and all that. But I do understand where the second camp is coming from. I think the path to a better world lies in trade unions and people coming together to defend common interests.

There are so many great song in my mother tongue that virtually nobody aside from the relatively few speakers could realistically even come into contact with. I'm certain all of you non-English speakers here can relate! I linked one of my favourite songs, what are yours?

Hey y'all! I've been thinking about starting a group of Legacy. For those who don't know, the system is a Powered by the Apocalypse game set in a Post-Apocalyptic setting of any kind (I was thinking a zombie apocalypse) where the players take control of factions. You shepherd your community through the ages and you also take control of significant characters from them to solve various threats to your community. You take decisions at both the faction and personal level, and you both cooperate and compete with the other players for resources.

My timezone is EEST. If you're interested, leave a comment or a DM and I'll be in touch!

In the old days of a few years ago, I used The Trove to find all I needed. Is there any replacement? I'm specifically looking for niche ttrpgs.

Preferably one that's not a rom hack, though I dig those too. I'm looking for something a bit harder than the originals and maybe a bit more mature, but still fair and whimsical. I'd like a game with pokemon from as many gens as possible, and fakemons are fine too.

Meet Parmesan. This weirdo likes to sit in the sink when I go to the toilet.

She also has a little plush fish that she always brings to me for safekeeping!
