Has there been a depiction of fast food on a space station?
  • I think the mess hall with a food replicator is as close as you're going to find.

What do you think the function is of a fast food restaurant in a society with no money and instant food machines.

This is of course with Earth in mind. I have no doubt there are fast food places on Ferenginar.

    Light switch advice
  • If you want to skip wiring all together, pick up two Aurora Dimmers and put Hue bulbs in all your sockets. It's not the cheapest or most privacy friendly if you're using their hub. But going this way, you can put the dimmer near the fixture you want to control, you have no wiring whatsoever, connection to HA, and you're completely up and running inside of 30 minutes.

How are you guys keeping track of your personal inventory?
  • The only thing I have inventoried is what's in the attic. Everything is in large plastic totes by category. I keep a text file listing each tote and what's in each. You looking for something specific? Search for that word in the text file and then go open up tote F3.

The totes are color coded based on what category of item is in them & have their contents written on the lids using a chalkboard marker for anyone in the family who doesn't want to use the text file.

  • I'm honestly surprised it's taken them this long. They bought Waze in 2013. I feel like Waze has been doing this kind of ad for at least that long.

  • Dogma is so great! For the last several years I've watched it on Good Friday after assisting at our church's 3pm service as I wait around for the 6:30pm service. Our parish priest loves it too!

To the HR and recruiting professionals or anyone familiar, do background checks of potential employees usually rely on profiles data brokers have compiled on them?
  • We check criminal records from local and national databases as well as your driving record. Because my industry is working with kids, we're really just checking to make sure you don't have any child abuse or neglect on your record.

Other industries, I'm sure, are looking for different things based on what they're hiring for. Where I work, there is a different set of checks we run on folks that work in our finance department, but I don't oversee that area.

Five Men Convicted of Operating Massive, Illegal Streaming Service That Allegedly Had More Content Than Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and Prime Video Combined
  • The group used "sophisticated computer scripts" and software to scour piracy services... for illegal copies of TV episodes, which they then downloaded and hosted on Jetflicks’ servers.

So they used some variant of Sick Beard?

Is there any closed source android app that you wish had a good open source alternative?
  • KineStop - After Apple announcef Motion Cues, I went looking on Android because I cannot use my devices in a moving vehicle. KineStop is all I found. I went ahead and bought it because it helps (doesn't completely get rid of motion sickness). I would gladly switch to an open source alternative if one were available.

How often do I actually need my heat pump system tuned up?
  • If you are set on not having someone look at it, at least take a look at your condensation line. It will be a PVC pipe coming off your inside unit and going to a drain. It probaby also has a u-shaped trap so that it can operate under negative pressure.

The issue is that algae can build up over time and cause water to back up and drain in places you don't want. A service person doing a tune up would take of this task... But at a price higher than what you'd want to pay.

Is Jitsi Meet a good software?
  • Presently, on meet.jit.si, only the moderator needs to be logged in. Everyone else can just join the meeting with no need to log in.

But that's just the one that Jitsi runs. The Guardian Project has a Jitsi Monitor that can point you to some other Jitsi instances.

Not unlike Lemmy. If you don't like the way things are run on one server, check a different one.
