And new project started. That thumbnail has seen some things... First time using yellow Aida. Kinda like it. Much easier to work with than black. And this is another pretty big stitch so I'm glad I won't need the light under the project.

  • Done! Technically finished before my sister's birthday but needs to be framed and some real life stuff got in the way so will still be belated. But! It's done. And adorable.

Just so you know I'm not DRAGON my feet, here's another WIP Wednesday post!
  • Look, the balls pun is just too low hanging to make. So instead, looks great! Does this put your pattern count over 9000?

  • Getting close to wrapping this up. Will probably miss my sister's birthday, but Christmas is around the corner. Or it'll just be a belated gift.

[WIP Wednesday] I otter be better about posting
  • Heh. No worries. Guesses are always fun and welcome, but I couldn't resist an otter pun in the title. Almost as much fun as a good dam joke.

  • I started this just after finishing Totoro so this is a few weeks of work. Will be a present for my sister when finished.

  • Looks great. I've never tried working panel by panel. I tend to just go for color sections within a pattern. Interesting...

    Question about frames [quick update]
  • Right?! So weird. My wife hit the local thrift place with no luck too. 😂

    Question about frames [quick update]
  • Yeah I saw some on Amazon but they didn't have many, if any, reviews and the ones that did weren't great reviews. I may have to either settle for a hoop or convince my wife that a square frame/round matte is the way to go.

  • I want to frame that Totoro stitch and my wife would really prefer a round frame. I don't really want to use just a hoop but have had trouble finding round frames in a 12-14" size that seem nice/decent quality. Anybody have any recommendations?

    *** update:

So my wife found a round record album display case that was 12". It had a couple little quirks, but ended up working pretty well. The trouble was nobody really frames round objects. We ended up taking it to a Michaels and they did it, but there were definitely a couple hiccups in the process. (They tossed the back of the frame and just papered over it once they had the stitch in place. Mostly because they didn't pay attention when we said there was a lip in there they needed to take into account because it was meant to display a record... Oh well)

From the front it looks pretty great and we have it up on the wall now and I am pretending the back is fine. Heh.

  • After 10 months. Finished. Biggest project I've tackled to date. I'm super happy right now. Will look for a frame to finish the project for good.

Totoro was too big to bring so I grabbed the little katamari damacy kit my kids got me for Christmas. It was a normal pattern but at the last second I came up with the joke and had to use it. (for those not familiar with the game you play as a prince)

Probably close to half done with this color of rain. It's... something. I definitely have to convince myself a little more to work on it.

    5

Since it's not actually Wednesday (and because I wanted to document it somehow) you get a picture of the back. I'm done with everything but the rain. And I fully expect that to make the back look ... different. So here you go. 😅

    5

Finishing up the tree before the rain rain rain falls down down down. Getting close...

    5

This is mostly for MrJameGumb because I think you mentioned having this pattern and contemplating doing it on black as well. The sign back stitching. The back stitching... If I'd been able to do it with a single thread I think it would have looked much cleaner. But I needed two to get any visibility. I actually kind of like the top two rows of kanji. That third row... It was not great. Too much in too little space. But that's all of the back stitching. I have realized a danger I'm going to encounter with all of the rain. It's going to be hard to tie off in the open. Hopefully I can figure something out. At any rate onwards and upwards.

    4

Still around. Still stitching. The back stitching on this will kill me. Ended up using 2 threads of black as it just wasn't showing up with one and I couldn't settle on an alternate color that made sense/also displayed. You can see one of the colors I tried where I did the stitching for her arms. Or can you? (dun dun dun) Also dark green on black is not fun. BUT! Progress. And I do think it looks good.

Got the light kit installed this afternoon. My daughter and I had a fun time with this set. The light kit really makes it pop.

    8

The right side (barring rain) is done. On to the left. Trying to decide how to handle it. At the moment I think I'm going to take it in three chunks. The boy to the right of the girls, the girls, the bit to the left. We'll see if that's actually what happens.

    7

Took us a little over a month. The light kit install was kind of a bear but so worth it. It plays the old cartoon theme song along with several other sound effects.

    4

Finally finished the build and kit install. I think it took us about a month and a week or two. It's amazing. The sound and lighting effects are amazing.
