Last month The RADV ray-tracing pipelines support was enabled by default but then later disabled for VanGogh APUs, notably the Steam Deck. Now though with the latest ray-tracing code in Mesa 23.2-devel the RADV driver is no longer blocking the support for VanGogh.

What did the super-mods, that modded the top 50+ default subs, do during the r/pocalypse?
  • Maybe another stupid question, but how does someone mod 50+ communities? I imagine a low-traffic sub would be easy, but a high-traffic one is bound to attract lots of a--holes who need comments deleted/banning/reporting, etc.

Is this a 24 hr/day gig? Do these mods have day jobs?

I guess my main questions are how do they do it, and why do they do it.

Good dumb TV for my living room media center?
  • I've been looking for a TV for awhile now, and I've found that there aren't really any practical dumb ones. There are a few models, but they're more expensive and have lower specs, cheaper panels, fewer menu options, etc.

Overall, the smart TVs are going to be cheaper/better because the company plans to make money on target ads, data mining, etc. Just don't connect it or enter a wi-fi password. Sadly that's where we're at now.

Am I able to personally block .threads on my .world account? I want nothing to do with meta.
  • Well, if you're on desktop and you don't mind installing scripts on your browser, there's a Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey script. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/141704

Can AI models be used to generate floor plans for say a 2BHK or 3BHK house given I provide the area in sq ft. and my house preferences ? If yes, is there any model capable of it right now ?
  • Well, to be fair, Mike Brady was a hot-shot architect and he had 6 kids sharing one bathroom. Maybe OP would be better off with stable diffusion.

So... are Lemmy users also generally crypto supporters?
  • I think in the early days it was because most here were left-leaning or libertarians, but now that the general public is starting to move in, it's more neutral/slightly negative.

    *Permanently Deleted*
  • OMG, same here. I got tired of buying a new inkjet every 2 years or so. I bought a Brother laser all-in-one 4 yrs ago and haven't looked back. My only regret was not spending the extra bucks to get a color model.

[Kubuntu on Deck] Took 30 years, but finally got 'em.
  • Yup, just the cheap antenna that came with the TV stick. But it did work with cable before Time Warner / Spectrum switched to cable boxes.

Car Headlights - Why not red?
  • When I was growing up, back in the Paleozoic era, I'm pretty sure it was illegal to have a red light on the front, white light on the back(except for backup lights), and blue or green were illegal anywhere on a vehicle. But all that seems to have gone out the window since then.

Of course any vehicle that's been modified to produce excess smoke violates federal (EPA) and possibly local law, but we see how well that's enforced.

How is it possible that roughly 50% of Americans can’t read above a 6th grade level and how are 21% just flat out illiterate?
  • I think these numbers are inflated, but the problem is still pretty bad.

Part of the problem is we have some politicians here that thrive on uneducated voters. Uneducated voters also tend to be more racist, and racists are a really reliable voting block if you speak their language. Also, they tend to believe "news" that corresponds with what they already believe, so social media and telemarketing works really well on them. Abortion and contraception bans increase the number of children born into poverty, who won't get a decent education and will rely on what they learn from their parents or TV.

So education funding rarely gets increased.

  • We've got an election coming up in 16 months in the US. So I imagine we'll see a lot of bots registering soon.

  • Craft Computing - Hooooo boy... The nVidia RTX 4060 has been launched to an absolute $hit storm of hellfire from hardware reviewers big and small. And the numbers they're coming up with ARE accurate, but do they tell the entire story? If everything your review is garbage now, it might be time to re-evaluate the way we review hardware.

The impact the reddit migration has on the fediverse!
  • Totally.

There was a former reddit mod on here a few days ago talking about how a small percentage of users make most of the posts/comments there. Personally, I'm glad to get away from that.

There may not be much content here, but at least the average person can be heard.

Is this hindrance for lemmies to post and watch particularly media and embedded videos (I have not yet seen) because of the not enough (storage) capacity of the lemmy instances/servers?
  • I'm new here just like most other folks, but from what I've seen so far is: Lemmy is a place to post links to your content, Peertube is the place to post your videos, Pixelfed is the place to post GIFs and short videos. Lemmy can handle picture uploads, but not much more than that right now.

But none of these instances is going to survive if users don't donate. All those corporate social media sites were free because you weren't the customer, you were the product.
