Any sci-fi with aliens where humans are not the less advanced race?
  • I think these stories are good. Best part is these are series so if you dig them, there's a longer road to travel.

    Old Man's War John Scalzi

    Lazarus War Jaime Sawyer

    The Lost Fleet Jack Campbell

  • Obama never said this. I agree with the sentiment, but the man never made this statement.

Ideas for electric clothes dryer that vents into attached garage
  • If I had your problem, I think I would look at 4 potential solutions.

1, vent-less dryer is obvious, but pricey 2. heavy duty dehumidifier, a quick amzn search suggests you can get something in the ~$100-$200 range 3. build an enclosure to run the vented air through a container with calcium chloride pellets, this should reduce moisture. maybe couple with #2, the pellets don't remove moisture, they trap it, so it will evaporate eventually. 4. vent your garage, moving air through it will be the cheapest and least difficult. This may not be an option for you depending on your situation.

A spin dryer can remove a lot of moisture from a load, but they are typically small. Never seen a family sized one, so I wouldn't recommend that.. you'd need 2 or 3 of them for large loads with cottons. If this does appeal use laundry alternative, panda isn't quite as high a value. I'm single and I only use the spin cause I hang everything, no dresser. only takes 3 mins for 'mostly dry' clothes. Some people use clay (cat litter) on their garage floor to soak up oil, this would also absorb the moisture, but it will still evaporate over time just like the Calcium Chloride.

YSK: If you find an interesting topic/rabbit hole, you can get some real engagement here if you share it. It doesn't get drowned out like elsewhere.
  • Try yelling fire, using the word "alot", or threatening a puppy? I've looked at your posts and while they are intellectually stimulating, there's a degree of knowing your audience involved. I would wager many people on here are people in drool mode after a rough patch at work.

There's also the fact that I'm a liar.

  • I know a lot of lurkers like me out there are browsing, but there's quite a bit of engagement capitol on the federated instances. If you find an interesting topic and the right community, you get a lot of feedback. There's not much hate being thrown out there either.

  • Same atm, but I'm feeling adventurous so I've decided to branch out. I'm thinking heavy whipping cream (thx Bioemerl) with a wee kick of honey to start. maybe see what vanilla extract will do...

  • I've been thinking of 'solving' the creamer issue for myself lately and then I saw Hoffman's video. What do you swear by?

What should we do about Threads?
  • We need to be able to block it ourselves. As far as I know, and I am very new to this, we can block communities, but not servers. I want to be able to block servers, the whole point of having a social network is to be able to communicate with people and if you can't prune bots, bad actors, blood sucking vampires like Stephen Miller, and Meta, the pseudonym for Evil Corp, then they are free to derail and poison community engagement in every conversation. The job of pruning becomes too overwhelming if I have to try to keep track of all the communities coming out of threads, or any other corp that could poison those interactions. I need the control to do it myself, while others who disagree with me can suckle on the corporate teet if they so wish. ,, here's 2 more commas for you,
