Communism
  • I haven't stated my position. Yes, I think our democratic processes could be better in many countries.

I also understand the reality that there is no simple 'one system" solution that is just going to miraculously fix everything.

  • The downvotes say it all. No one in favour of it here seems able to have an honest discussion.

If you are genuinely unable to see that any political system, no matter how great in theory, doesn't translate that simply into reality because of human behaviour, then you've got some reading and thinking to do.

The attitude towards communism here comes across like a cult. Present facts or a reasonable point of discussion, you get shouted down/strawmanned, othered, etc.

Ironically, the very behaviour that stops things like communism working in reality.

  • Of course they haven't, and while I'm happy to be proved wrong, I'm sure they're all enjoying the benefits of living in a democratic country while cosplaying communists.

Connor McGregor Wants to Run for Irish President
  • Yeah I've got nothing but respect for his initial achievements and character. I'm not really an MMA follower but I saw some of his initial fights and interviews.

Not sure what happened since but it's clearly not good. I wonder if the kind of people you end up being around when you get that rich and famous are part of the problem. I'll never know so I can only speculate haha.

  • Yeah, they're all the same. Musk, Trump, crypto, religion, AI - they all offer a simple, easy solution to all problems. It's false hope, but it's reassuring and we're all susceptible to it given the chaos of existence.

Reality is complicated, politics is complicated, running countries is complicated, and no one has all the answers. We have to work on those together. No one person is going to solve all the problems we have, and these cunts absolutely don't give a fuck about you or me or the 'working man'.

It works because it's such an easy sell and it's easy to fall for it. I have before too. But being good at battering people and choking them out does not by default translate into being able to run a country (maybe thousands of years ago hah).

Thats the other aspect to these things. We tend to mistakenly assume that because a person is good at one thing, they're automatically going to be good at everything. People like Musk and McGregor are also very good at selling this, because they're generally talking to people who also have a limited understanding of the topic.

I honestly think if we taught local civics and critical thinking on a global scale you'd massively reduce this kind of problem, but who knows.

  • Well, he certainly would be whether he realised it or not - if by that you mean easily manipulated by outside interests (like musk and god knows who else)

The UK says water bosses could face prison under plans to clean up sewage-clogged rivers
  • Interestingly, it seems the last government were sitting on a massive prison overcrowding crisis, and there is now talk of sending prisoners to Estonian prisons to ease it.

To be honest, I'd imagine that'd be an even stronger deterrent for these pissbags. I can't imagine an Estonian prison being very accommodating!

Advertiser exodus from X gathers pace with 26% ‘planning to cut spending’
  • This whole idea of infinite growth is so fucking stupid because it's just not possible.

Nothing grows infinitely. It's a complete denial of reality, and because businesses refuse to accept the idea they cannot infinitely grow, we end with no plans for periods of no growth, which ends up in layoffs and the poorest getting fucked while the morons demanding infinite growth take all the money and try and do it again somewhere else.

  • san.com UFC star Conor McGregor announces intention to run for Ireland's presidency

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor is entering the political arena, revealing plans to run for the presidency of Ireland in 2025.

Endorsed by Elon and Andrew Tate! He is, in his own words: "the only logical choice".

What could possibly go wrong having a narcissistic hyper aggressive idiot that wants to dissolve parliament in charge?

  • Thanks for proving my point by responding with the classic go to 'rebuttal' when anyone challenges crypto: "you don't understand the tech!"

Cool. Let's save both of our time then. All the best.

  • There are lots of arguments against crypto, but the main one is that it is inferior to the current system in every conceivable way.

-It's slower -It's harder to use -It's full of scams -It's backed by nothing -There is no consumer protection -It amplifies the existing problems of the financial system instead of solving them (money laundering/scams/financial inequality) -It's dominated by the same rich cunts you're trying to escape, but they're even worse in crypto -All networks generally need L2s because they're so shit and slow

Those are just some off the top of my head.

Additionally, it's been around for a long time now. Everyone in crypto is so involved in solving the problems that are unique to crypto and Blockchain that they've missed the fact that no one gives a shit because it literally offers nothing we don't already have that works better.

The only reason anyone has ever cared about crypto is because it potentially offered a way to get rich quickly and 'easily' and get out of the grind.

It's a casino. That's fine, you might make money. But that's all it is.

I'm not saying the current system is ideal, or even good, but crypto is nothing like a viable alternative.

I'm all for decentralisation, but you do realise that all systems end up centralising to some extent over time because it's just more efficient, right? Maybe we can find a good balance and make sure accountability actually means something in our systems, whatever industry they're in, but the answer isn't crypto from what I've seen.

Interesting you talk about gatekeeping information when you're literally parroting crypto echo chamber rhetoric because if you dare suggest anything other than crypto is the future you will instantly get shut down. It's a cult, basically.

  • How the fuck do you 'swap' consciousness into something that doesn't have it?

Can you 'abuse' a brick, or a search engine, or a toaster?

Consciousness has only ever been observed in brains.

Chat GPT is not a fucking brain. It's not even close.
