I saw in Apple's YouTube video introducing the hearing aid feature in AirPods Pro 2 at 1:34 mark that "Feature is only available in the U.S and Canada". Which feature? Hearing test? Hearing protection? Or the whole thing of AirPods Pro 2 doubling as a hearing aid? I find this extremely confusing and would love some explanation from the community. Thanks in advance!
I know it's been a running joke for years now, but jesus christ the iPhones still start at 128GB and the regular 16 is still 60Hz and USB 2.0.
- • 80%chromeunboxed.com iPhone 16 is here, but I’m hyped for just one reason: RCS on iOS 18
It's that time of year again, folks. As the tech world has sights set on the latest Apple event that is producing the new iPhone 16 as we speak, we all know we'll be seeing slightly improved phones, some impressive specs, and a few 'innovative" or "magic" new features from Apple. For me, however, th...

Apple Intelligence won’t be part of the initial launch.
@apple\_enthusiast it would be nice if iWork used ODF as it’s really not productivity software if its formats are not compatible with the rest of the world no matter what OS and software one is using particularly when ODF is now the ISO recognized format.

- www.macrumors.com Apple Announces Expanded Satellite Services for UK and Canada

Genuine question because I can’t work it out - if the satellite services are used when the user has no network service, how can “carrier fees may still apply” work? Surely the absence of a carrier network signal and the use of satellite services means that you’re not using the carrier’s network, so how can they apply a charge?
I have only one Apple device and nothing else. I wanted to update the notifications email for my Apple account.
I open my AppleID in a web page of Safari on my iPhone.
I follow these steps :
1 Log in to appleid.
2 Select "Sign-in and Security"
3 Select"Notification Email" (the defunct email is displayed)
4 Select "Change Email"
5 Enter a new valid email address in the modal popup.
6 Click continue. The following message is displayed:
"Continue on one of your devices On an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch go to Settings > Apple ID. On a Mac go to System Preferences or System Settings > Apple ID."
When I look in Settings > AppleID ON THE DEVICE there is no option anywhere to change notification email … 🤷🏻♂️
People have been posting about this on the official Apple support forum for years with no solution mentioned.

So I went and did it. Ordered an adapter and an intel ax200. It seems work just fine out of the box in linux. This cost me 25 to 30 euros total.

Antenna considerations
The laptop was only designed for up to ac. The new card can do ax, which uses a different band. My router doesn't support ax, so I have no clue if that will see significant signal drop with the old antennae. I actually haven't even bothered to look deep enough to know if this even would be an issue, maybe it's okay.
So as you may know, i am a guy mostly focused on privacy. Basically, insead of google i use SearXNG. (Privacy focused search engine) However, when i went to change the default search engine in safari, there was no option to add a custom search engine.
This really pissed me off. So how come Apple allows changing default browsers in the EU, but not search engines?

Can anyone shed any light on why you can't swipe back and forward in Finder with a trackpad? The option in Settings allows for two finger swipe between pages in eg. Safari, but that doesn't extend to Finder, and I can't work out why?
I've been able to activate it using BetterTouchTool, but it seems like a truly bizarre omission, considering how much Apple have optimised macOS for trackpad use.
I don't know why I've never really thought about it before, but now I can't stop...
I wanted something like GIMP for iOS with which I can stitch together/overlay/crop images, add text, blank out parts, draw on the image, and so on. Nothing in the app store looked appealing, most of what I could find seems to be geared towards photo post processing, so I had the idea of trying Freeform for this, because well, it lets you place various objects on a canvas. And it works pretty well!
Create a new board with the image inside, set it to no rounded corners and no shadow, and then do whatever you want to it with Freeform’s tools.
Then, when you’re done, select Export to PDF and convert it to an image. You can use this share sheet shortcut which I made which makes an image out of it and also cuts away the white frame it generates around the PDF: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/fa5e2386588742b2a1f5d41401f2238e
There you go, straight forward basic image editing with a free stock app.
It unfortunately doesn’t preserve the original resolution of the image but it’s definitely good enough for me.

Anyone notice siri no longer recognizes common foreign idoms anymore? Either in TTS or Ask Siri… The only concrete example I have is recognizing “Croque Monsieur” since my love for hot ham sandwiches has spanned the ages… but I feel like there’s something more nefarious at work here.
It feels like used to be able to ask for a info about random foreign words and it would at least trigger a web search for something phonetically similar, which would often get me the translation I was after. But lately* the TTS engine is militantly transforming everything into English. Obviously this is more subtle and open to other interpretations, but for example I just asked her what “hikikomori” were which got interpreted as “Hickam Morty,” with top hits for the show Rick and Morty.

Hi, guys. I work at a school where we use iPads for music education. We've got a bit of an issue though. Some kids delete other people's music projects, and that obviously sucks.
Is there a way to lock certain files so the kids can give their own files their own password protection or something so nobody gets their stuff sabotaged?
Other creative solutions are appreciated as well!
Thanks guys!
Edit: The music room has a Mac, so thanks to your helpful suggestions, we're gonna try with the AirDrop method where they drop to the host machine that the teacher has access to.
Edit: Kinda found a answer
>Major versions of iOS are released annually. Apple significantly extended the cycle of updates for iOS-supported devices over the years. Usually, only the latest iOS release is supported by Apple. Starting with iOS 15, Apple started to support 2 major versions of iOS, for a short period of time.
https://endoflife.date/ios
Hi guys this might be a silly question, do ios and iPad OS devices have different number of years of major updates (think ios 16, 17, 18 etc) and years of security updates?
Or do devices that don't make the cut for the latest major update immediately loose access to security updates once a new incompatible major ios update is released?

I have this old '13 air. It's outta support, so I run fedora instead of macos. It has BCM4630 for wireless (🖕 Broadcom), which had me manually install a rather unreliable driver to ever get it working. Yesterday I updated, and it can't find any networks anymore.
Instead of messing with broadcom drivers anymore, I'd rather replace the hardware with something better. Has anyone here tried this? Know what will work both in linux and macos, if I were to pass this thing to someone else later?
Not sure if I just haven’t noticed the standard disclaimer before or if it’s a new “feature” 😬
