Opossum are marsupials. In fact, the Virginia Opossum is the only native marsupial in its area! They can also shove an impressive chunk of their upper body into their own pouch if needed.
My ex-wife fed a bunch of raccoons catfood on our back porch. When I found out I was kind of pissed since there was at least 3 or 4 of them coming to the house regularly. My trash cans do get toppled over from time to time but it was happening more often than I liked and guess who has to pick up the garbage each time?
Anyways, so I tell her to stop feeding them and the first night they don't get fed they dug up all my potted plants on my back porch.
I just let it go for a few weeks until they eventually gave up. I also got new cans that I could fasten down and they couldn't get into. Attrition is an often overlooked factor in war.
A guy I knew in university had a skunk. I guess a vet can remove their scent glands. It seemed like an OK pet. Friendly, clean.
Raccoons on the other hand. My dad brought home a couple of babies whose mom had been roadkill. One died, but the other grew into a forty-pound monster that would try and climb on everyone's shoulders and would bite everyone except my dad and me sometimes. Super cute pain in the ass. She ran away when she was in heat.
