Now here's a reality television-style data dump on top of you, out of the blue and with a shrill emotional tone to it, even though we are supposed to be... you know... "the news".
One can detect the obvious mechanism of political infotainment a little more clearly when they have to stop midway and change the cartridge. Or maybe it's more like the grind of a sausage factory.
It was bad enough when it was just cable news networks fighting for ratings. Now that engagement-first feeds are involved we have hundreds of billions of dollars dependent on making sure people are as upset "engaged" as possible.
If we just said no campaigning before the second Tuesday in August we'd eliminate a lot wrong with our politics. Suddenly you don't need to raise billions of dollars to be president because there's no way to spend it all in that amount of time. The cost to purchase other seats goes down similarly.
