So, I had no idea, but from a cursory search, I found these headlines:

So yeah, probably we don't need to use him in a popular meme format.

- Yeah I mean I'm about as indifferent to using him in the meme as I am with the Drake meme - and I blame Drake (in part) for all the deaths at Astroworld. The meme is separate to the man.

  I just read the whole Wikipedia article about the incident. There is definitely a lot of blame to go around based on that article, but I doesnt have much about Drake's role in it. It seems like he was only on stage for one song, and wouldn't have been in any position to stop the show.

Genuinely bugs me every time I see the meme. Even just referencing it feels like a tribute, but I get it's pretty entrenched at this point.

- As far as I know, Watterson was only against merchandising of the characters. With the exception of the pissing sticker I'm sure, as long as you're using the media in good faith I think he'd probably be okay with it? Didn't know the man

Deserve, maybe not. But few bother to find out who the guy in a meme is, so it's sort of separate from the person. His smug face is precisely what makes the meme so good, and is representative of unashamedly presenting a controversial opinion. We could replace him but it doesn't bother me much to keep it

When there are already so many alternatives why not just use another meme template instead? You dont need to recreate this one just cuz you dont like the guy
