Once you realise that they all think we have less than 10 years to the total collapse of civilisation, everything they do makes sense.

How does it make any sense whatsoever? Musk, Bezos, Zuck, etc already have more money than they can spend even if they were all to live a full life. Helping bring on the collapse of civilization would just reduce their power and control over us.
If you're saying that they believe it will collapse regardless of what they do, then they'd probably behave more like Gabe Newell and live their life by hopping from one yacht to another somewhere out in the ocean.

  I think it’s one of those things that when you see it you can’t unsee it.
  It’s heavily tied to whether you are looking at actual climate and resource data or just following the day to day shenanigans.
  I’ve tried to offer a bit more context in a different response a bit lower, but I’d say the best thing to do is go get engaged in conversation with people who are seeing it.
  As far as I can tell there is a part of the population that simply doesn’t want to see this either. On Lemmy it seems to be around 20% but I think the overall population is probably closer if not over 60%. It’s a really full on realisation and reality shifting experience for people who have done everything by the book, went to university, bought the house, did the making kids thing, paying mortgages, watch the tv shows and talk about the tv shows to people at “parties”.
  It’s hard to have that whole American Dream paradigm fall apart.
  ETA: to illustrate this point, there are people going to downvote this comment, and a bunch of my previous ones, just because they don’t want others to also experience reading this. Fck man, I was hoping this wouldn’t become reddit so fast.

  To a degree, but they need a heavy industrial base to operate from and continue to produce resources. They dont have that.
  Most of their resources come from contracts and conventions. When those shatter, they dont have any wealth past what they tangibly have in goods. Since opulent wealth like yaughts and fine wine require civilization to exist, they are unlikely to maintain that position in the collapse of society. Best case for them is a well stocked bunker and a wealthy, isolated life. They all have that, but only that.
  The OPs statement isn't likely. What's more likely is that realize this is a change to enact a second gilded age, a full oligarchy where the rich rule explicitly. They are striking now that the groundwork has been laid and an weak president is in office that will welcome it.
- It’s been proven over and over again that if you give people at the bottom more money, they buy more things, which makes the economy stronger, which increases industry, which makes more money for the top 1%.
  Yet, instead of upping pay for their workers, billionaires fight as hard as possible to do the opposite.
  Freefall put it quite succinctly. It’s not about how much they have, it’s about how much other people don’t have. If they had a choice between having a giant pile of gold but everyone else has smaller piles, or having a giant pile of shit and everyone else having nothing, they would choose the pile of shit.
  These people have been dreaming for years of a ‘new world order’, with them, the glorious techbros, leading their own kingdoms free of all that pesky ‘government influence’. Their plan is to wreck the world and build their little bunkers, and then all of us plebeians will be begging at their door to be let in, because the world outside will be unlivable.
  They write manifestos about all this. It’s their wet dream.

Once upon a time there was global trade in whale oil. It was used for lighting, cooking, heating and people were so sure it would never run out because the ocean was so big. Then several species were hunted to extinction and many other species became endangered and trade in whale oil had to stop. Petroleum is a finite resource. Corporate controlled governments are fighting wars over oil right now because it's almost gone. Between 5 and 8 years of oil left. America has spent a century destroying public transportation and enslaving the population to the automotive and fossil fuel industries. They can't switch to renewable energy fast enough. Without fossil fuel for their cars Americans will be finished.

Collapse of civilization would render their wealth meaningless unless they've stockpiled megatons of supplies.

  I just don't see why people who derive all their power from the civil order would expect its collapse, nor why that would explain their actions, but maybe I'm missing something

They don't 'think'... They are causing it. This is purposefully done. They want to bring about a collapse.. they want to buy everything for scrap and make themselves untouchable after the carnage is done

Only because they think they're special enough to make it out unscathed. Just a matter of time, and nature excels in using time to her benefit.

It's easy to be right when you're have the power, will and utter lack of morals to do anything to ensure reality conforms to your predictions.

Every one of these dirt bags thinks they are going to ‘ride it out’ in their luxury, underground bunkers.
As they die their miserable deaths, only postponed, they will still be oblivious to the part they played in it all.
These people are a Pox upon humanity, and the planet itself.

Real talk, capitalism will eventually end the real question is will it take all of us with it.
