Dot hack sign may not be that entertaining, but for me there is something special to it. I felt like it perfectly expressed how it feels to be lost in a state of depression and trying to find something meaningful, probably without even meaning to.
Absolute duo. The anime is just your standard harem bullshit with a story that makes no sense, but the opening is so good. I watched that anime exactly because I got intrigued by the opening, and got disappointed
It barely pays off in IMOQ(The first 4 .hack games), G.U did better to tie the game and anime together, though the G.U anime is also pretty optional.
There's some really solid bits of .hack media, but it's kinda lost in the less than great stuff, and the Key of Twilight manga has an uncomfortable amount of "My sister's hot".
One title that instantly comes to mind for me is Genesis of Aquarion. I admittedly never got very far into it because it's really awkward to watch with other people around (looking at you mecha combining scenes). I actually really only checked out the show because I heard the OP in Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX.
I was getting burned off of so many harem and shonen animes that were carbon copies of each other.
Then suddenly, dot hack sign hit us with this killer first episode. I remember the audio was messed up. Music blasted at 11 and you couldn't hear the dialog. It was incredible.
After episode 3... I dropped it. Every time I see dot hack sign, I wonder if in a alt reality, if it's at the Naruto/One Piece level of quality and lifem
Magical destroyers you would think that with that opening a show would explore some deeper an meaningful themes.
No. It doesn't.
Opening is a banger though.
Mirai no Mirai(YouTube link) Nanatsu no Taizai(animethemes.moe link)
And I think Kyousougiga is good, but the opening(animethemes.moe link) is on another level.
I haven't watched it since about when this clip of the opening was first uploaded, but I recall a lot of the emotional beats getting undercut by long bits of dialogue interrupting the events of the show.
For instance I remember some fight where it felt like every time someone started speaking all of the other characters stopped everything they were doing as if waiting for their turn to do something. Which wouldn't have been so bad considering you don't want the camera to miss the actiony bits but it took so much time for anyone to say their line that it was distracting.
Again, haven't seen it in a long time so I may be misremembering, but that was the impression I got from my initial viewing.
Neon Genesis Evagelion has a banger opening, and the first few episodes make you want to see where they are taking the story, but alas it goes no where :/
