Luckily for me I really hate sleeping on a bare mattress, so I can only go to bed after the new ones are on.
- Yeah I will just put off getting into bed for as long as possible which will result in me putting on new bedsheets at 5 am
  
  I will sleep on the couch and tell myself I'll put on new bedsheets the next day. Usually this results in sleeping on the couch for the next couple of days.
- Similar, except the idea of ruining my perfectly good mattress by sleeping on it sans sheets is enough for me to put sheets on. I simply can't imagine being like angh, fuck it, sleep on mattress.
  I remember moving out of my family home with my mom and brother after my parents split, I was 19 or 20, spent the whole day carrying shit. Get to my room, it's mattress, box spring, floor, and I'm exhausted. I still took the extremely lazy route of grabbing my sleeping bag and sleeping in it on my mattress.
  And for anyone unaware here, a little PSA, putting your bare skin on your mattress is a great way to get a stinky, oily mattress that is uncleanable. It's why mattress covers exist, ton insulate that nice mattress from your awful stink (myself included). Once it's ruined, its ruined.

The solution is to just have two sets of sheets.
Pull the old set off and throw it on the floor, put the new set on, then let the old set sit there for a few weeks while you keep stepping over the pile.

  Or marry someone who's probably autistic, because I'll get the sheets and make sure they're washed and folded and put back into the closet and have a system that rotates them out on a regular schedule.
  
  Nope. Autistic here. I've always kept two sets of bed linen (doesn't everyone?) and after I've stripped the old one and shoved it in the laundry pile, the new sheets will often just sit on my chair for a few hours, while I get distracted with other things.
  
  Let's not try to portray developmental disorders as a superpower. My SO is autistic, and I (being ADHD) am solely responsible for ensuring shit like this gets done.

The alternative is to not change your bedsheets for 6-8 months
- We used to suffer from this, but now have a cat-based monitoring system:
  3 cats sleep on bed = perfectly clean
  2 cats sleep on bed = clean enough
  1 cat sleeps on bed = prepare to change sheets
  0 cats sleep on bed = change bedsheets now

  Toby sleeps on bed = smells like piss, needs changing
  I don't know how to get him to clean himself. He's so lazy!

No, it's a race against my cat, can I get it on before she gets the fuck in the way? lol
- This is why I pretty much make the bed on top of mine. She doesn’t want to move at first but she either gets annoyed or turns it into a game so it’s a win-win even if it takes about 15 mins when it should be 5.

I just get the new ones out before taking off the old ones. And I attach the corners to the matress with safety pins so they stay put for the following 6 months.
- I'm learning that some people don't have more than one set of sheets. We are privileged.

  I don't know how often I should change my bed sheets. I do it like once a month or so, but I have friends that do it every week and it made me feel like I'm really gross.
- Different strokes for different folks, but I really like fresh sheets so I wash them every Friday. Don't your sheets start to feel stale?
  
  I probably exaggerated but when I was still depressed six months were definitely common. And before I came up with the safety pin technique they got undone constantly and were left in that state for days. They don't really get grimey but they accumulate lint and hair so I used to just vaccuum them from time to time. Changing them every week is surely great as a self care routine but I think six weeks are a reasonable maximum regarding hygiene.
  
  I don't have laundry in my apartment so washing sheets once a week is a big ask.

As somebody who has been sleeping on a bare mattress for the last two nights, I do not appreciate being called out like this.

Alright now that guy in particular needs to be medicated.

Having a partner living with you alleviates this somewhat. You say to them "are we sleeping on this bare mattress or should we tag team this bullshit?"

I initially misread "executive dysfunction" as "erectile dysfunction", and I was quite perplexed for a minute

It's not that hard people, instead of replying or downvoting this, go do it!

Just be like my old roommate who slept on the bare ass mattress every day
