Didn't they stop at russian forests where their horses became useless?
The Mongols couldn't handle forests.
More like they got lucky they stumbled onto a land teeming with resources that saw war as an exhibition sport and not a "who can do the most genocide" competition.
How was the destruction wrought by the Mongols “incurred” - do you think they’re god’s punishment for something?
"If you had not committed such great sins, Heaven would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."
Yes
My jeans are superior because they have thick, double-stitched belt loops and deep front pockets.
My genes on the other hand are a hot mess partially responsible for my lifelong suicidal depression. Thanks Mom.
My Wrangler jeans are so tough they can't even be destroyed by the NX-5 planet destroyer
My jeans have a gusseted crotch.
You're half right. White people are not superior. HOWEVER... Your argument as to why is complete trash. The Mongol empire as impressive as it was didn't touch SE Asia, India, most of Russia, the entire fucking continent of Africa, or anywhere not connected to Eurasia. Also it wasn't the Mongols who burned the great library of Alexandria.
Where did I applaud the Mongols? Also, they burned the Library of Baghdad.
They're just saying that many other parts of the world weren't scourged by Mongols so the theory that Europe rose to prominence because it was spared doesn't really hold water.
That's if I understood them correctly.
Strawman. Original Commenter (OC) didn't say you applauded the Mongols. All we're doing in this thread is correcting facts, not applying judgements
Europeans crusading in the Middle East praised the Mongols (under the Prester John myth) as they crushed their muslim enemies.
Meanwhile Europeans prayed for a savior against the other branch Mongols spreading across Russian lands.
It'a been 20 years but I seem to remember it was the Mongols in the north of Europe that secured tributary vassals and opted not to return to Mongolia for electing a new Khan and the lineage of Jochi became rather independent. They moved south around the Black and Caspian Seas instead.
I read a theory somewhere that the Mongols use of dead bodies as weapons is major factor creating the black plague.
This theory is on Wikipedia:
Some studies indicate the Black Death, which devastated Europe in the 1340s, may have traveled from China along the trade routes of the Mongol Empire. In 1347, the Genoese possessor of Caffa, a great trade emporium on the Crimean Peninsula, came under siege by an army of Mongol warriors under the command of Janibeg. After a protracted siege during which the Mongol army was reportedly withering from disease, they decided to use the infected corpses as a biological weapon. The corpses were catapulted over the city walls, infecting the inhabitants.[142][143] The Genoese traders fled, transferring the plague via their ships into the south of Europe, from where it rapidly spread. The total number of deaths worldwide from the pandemic is estimated at 75–200 million with up to 50 million deaths in Europe alone.[103]
Plaque isn't spread by corpses, but by fleas
https://historycollection.com/mongols-used-plague-biological-weapon/
It also is spread by the buboes on the bodies that rupture and spread infected pus and bloos. Throw a bunch of bodies over a wall and one will eventually infect someone inside, who will infect everyone else.
I think I know how to stop white supremacy. We take all the white supremacists, we put them in one place. Then we explain to them the scientific method and how science actually supports equality.
And then, after they all listened, we take all those papers and we shove them up their ass!
Thank you Stanley.
They're an existential threat to our species so I'm totally ok with giving them their own nation as a quarantine measure. They would immediately declare war when they realize their society/economy is dysfunctional either due to global ostracization or not having access to legacy wealth accruing mechanisms created during colonial times. The question is if America would come to their rescue as they have for the worlds other "favorite" ethnostate.
Does Nazi Fascistostan have a right to exist?
My question is, where does one purchase a pair of superior jeans, and are they really as durable as the name implies?
...or is there some other aspect that makes said jeans superior?
I have some AE jeans that are made out of some kind of stretchy shit that are pretty great. Can't speak to the durability because I mostly wear them to my office job so they're not getting a ton of wear and tear but they're pretty old at this point and no real signs of wear on them from that.
Superior Jeans ^(or how I wrote a poem & you learned I was da bomb)
I own a pair of stretchy jeans; they make my legs look mean
Superior jeans are an obscenity
I feel superior in my gender-indfferent-inity
Blue, gray - you always tend to fray I still love you anyway
I have Jack and Jones jeans for years and haven't had a problem with them. They still look as new as on the day I bought them. Plus they're more affordable.
The 'Council of Jean Superiority' has gathered & deliberated on the status of your jeans.
The consensus is in. Congratulations!!
Your jeans have been deemed superior
where does one purchase a pair of superior jeans
China, ironically enough.
Japan has some good jean makers
So that's why the Mongols invaded China!!!
Bangladesh maybe
I like Edwin.
My jeans are Calvin Klein. They are superior because they are mine.
Not one race, nor any race is better, if you believe one race is above others, if you believe skin colour is predictive of anything, you are the inferior person over all others, because you are an idiot for believing bullshit. You're not intelligent enough to get over propaganda.
"White" is sort of inferior as a concept of a race, because it's not even a single race. Just whatever is convenient for racism. Sometimes, Jewish people are white, and sometimes they aren't, for example.
Race isn't actually a thing, it's a categorical method of sorting ethnicities into groups based on variable forms of bigotry.
Jewish people come from people who follow the religion, like ethiopian jews, who are persecuted and castrated in isreal, or arabic jews. There are a lot of different people in the world, being different ethnicities. Some jewesh people are white, some aren't, based on the parents/cultures they are brought in.
There's a clear sense in the general populace that whiteness is better, etc, and this is perpetrated from the eurocentric point of view, made for he whole world to "achieve", even if it's clearly bullshit, like indians (totally not because of the british (/s)) trying literally to wash their colours.
This doesn't even make sense, because we're all homo sapiens sapies, but who cares, some pieces of shit indoctrinated all societies with that crap to make more money (blacks and other ethnicities were seen as better at manual labour and violent, so it would be better to put them to work as slaves, not because of profit, but because of their inhereted bullshit i just invented).
Meh. Dad nailed it. "Son, we're not the best race, we're the most violent."
Been thinking on that for 30 years. Still rings true.
The lesson was supposed to be "Son, races aren't actually a thing, they're a categorical method of sorting people into groups based on variable forms of bigotry. Where one race begins and another ends is as arbitrary as the lines we draw in the sand."
Not turning the white supremacy around into some kind of self-hating racism. That makes about as much sense as the white supremacy. And progresses the human race about as far.
In 8th grade I was talking to my bff who is half Druze and my buddy Dan whose family immigrated from Portugal about how it’s weird that Dan is “white” and yet has a dark brown skin tone while my BFF was not despite having a similar skin tone to myself who is very white.
Dad's point of view had nothing to do with self-hate, to him it was merely a statement of fact.
Denying diferencess actually regresses the human race. What should be thought is that personal and cultural differences have much bigger influence over behaviour then biological ones. And that humans have this thing called a brain, whos internal wiring can be changed to different levels of being an asshole.
If you don't accept the basic thing, you won't understand the advanced one.
People are people. We are more a product of our environments than any innate differences.
Europeans and their descendants have had environmental pressures that led to certain advantages which they were willing to capitalize on globally. The inhumanity involved was predicated on dehumanizing other peoples and cultures, giving birth to white supremacy. The resultant industrialization they sought after has wreaked havoc on our planet and may bring our species to extinction through climate change.
I appreciate where your dad was coming from. It's disappointing that we live in a world where your father even had to challenge such a proposterous notion (racial superiority).
But white people are not more violent. In the same way, I don't see any accomplishment by a white person as unique to their race. They are human accomplishments first and, in my view, could have been achieved by any person in the same environmental circumstances.
I don't even see white people as an amalgamation anymore. Or any 'race' for that matter. My ancestors are Indian so you can imagine we don't all see or refer to ourselves as just Indian (an identity that within it holds 1500 dialects). I don't think it's a meaningful designation. It's happenstance.
I'm much more interested in the specifics. Particularily, defining and understanding a persons worldview. If youre a person that tries to put people on a hierarchical ladder based on arbitrary physical traits, we're probably not going to vibe. If you're someone that understands that identity is fluid and evolves over time (just as our values might) and have a goal of making life better for ourselves and others then I would reassert what I said earlier. We are more similar than we are different.
Have you ever heard of the history of Asia?
Rise of west is more attributed to the colonization no? They did have really good naval technology.
It is a fascinating question, isn't it? Why specifically did the left edge of Europe, and basically no one else, take over the world?
I totally get that the New World just didn't stand a chance because by some quirk there are basically no domesticatable animals native to the Western hemisphere. Imagine trying to bootstrap yourself to the iron age without the horse, cow, pig, chicken, sheep, goat, donkey, dog or cat. So when Cortez landed on the Yucatan with steel weapons and armor, firearms, horses etc. he encountered civilizations on par with the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, and that was the most advanced it got in the New World.
But the Old World, AfroEurAsia, had been in contact with each other basically forever. Why was it that Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Great Britain became world dominating global superpowers when, say, Japan, Korea, China, Southeast Asia or India didn't? I can understand why the coastal and island nations on the left edge of the "world" might invest in sea power and start sailing the world...why didn't the coastal and island nations on the right edge do the same?
Yeah the Western empires grew to global supremacy via colonization which is still echoed in the present day, the United States of America, former colony of Great Britain, is still the most powerful and influential nation on Earth. Britain sailed so we could fly. Why didn't anyone else in the world do the same?
Well, it seems that Western Europe had a lethal combination of three things that no one else in the world had:
So it turns out that in the entire world, only the Western Europeans had the means, motive and personality to travel the world by ship. Asians and Africans had the means, but not the motive or personality, and nobody in the New World had the means. Fast forward a few centuries and the result is the petrodollar.
Arabia went from the golden region a few hundred years before with trade and advancements with Asia into an isolationist and advancement-fearful society, mostly due to a shift in Islamic thought.
We are seeing a similar reaction on a much faster scale due to liberalism of the same areas and Islamic extremism. This happened to a lesser extent in the west with the Roman church and to an extent in the Near-East with the Eastern Orthodox church. Islamic and E. Orthodox thought is generally not scientificly influenced and at times anti-intelectual. Catholic thought at a macro level is scientificly minded and pro advancement, but on a micro level had to focus on more important issues such as the plague.
That sounds like Gun Germs and Steel which is a very problematic book.
Funny enough western Africa did have kings that attempted to sail west a good 100 years before Europe but I guess it was still too early.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansa_Muhammad
Also reading his wikipedia page for the first time it's kinda funny how relevant the only two other mentioned people in the article are.
One of them is Mansa Musa, the legend that donated so much during pilgrimage entire nations collapsed due to sheer inflation.
And the other one is named "Sakura."
It was the black death.
It caused wages to rise due to the reduction in available labour force, and increased social mobility (through the amount of positions it left available) and personal wealth of the survivors (through inheritance and looting), kick-starting the renaissance.
From there, it was all dominoes. More wealth allowed more commerce and innovation (here's where the naval technology comes in), which led to the discovery and ransacking (and eventual colonisation of America) which led to more wealth and commerce and innovation and social mobility, which led to less social stability, wars, more innovation, a series of political, social, and industrial revolutions, a vicious circle of runaway capitalism devouring everything in its path, the ideal of eternal growth, and the raping to death of the only world we have.
No black death, we'd probably still be living in the middle ages (with better plows and bigger cathedrals, sure, there was still plenty of innovation back then), and complaining about the cold instead of the ever rising heat.
No one can claim superior jeans
My jeans are pretty awesome. They're actually durable, like good jeans should be. IDK what happened to Levi, but they suck these days. Don't know my brand off hand... Something Bay, or whatever.
I have worn Levi for forever, and you aren't wrong. They used to be great, but for many years now, they've been garbage. I gotta find a better brand.
kind of a weird way to frame it
"I can say that as a pun but you can't, na na na-na na".
The Americans are doing something again aren't they
The idea of 'superior genes' is a myth that flows out of noble class animal breeding
It was folded into 'divine right' as one of the many stupid reasons they justified their power and luxury
The rich bred dogs and horses and saw inheritable traits and then just applied that to people with zero actual understanding of biology and genetics.
I've seen a lot more people complaining about people complaining about American Eagle supposedly supporting eugenics than I have people complaining about American Eagle supporting eugenics
This sentence is upsetting for multiple reasons
In my defense it was like 1am when I wrote it and I was very sleepy
Is this better?
It has come increasingly to my attention—through various social media platforms, conversations, and the general hum of the digital discourse—that there appears to be, quite paradoxically and somewhat disproportionately, a significantly higher volume of individuals expressing their frustration, disapproval, and/or bewilderment at the sheer number of other individuals who are themselves expressing outrage, concern, or condemnation over what is alleged to be, though perhaps not thoroughly substantiated in every case, American Eagle’s supposed alignment with or support of eugenics-related ideologies or policies, than there are individuals who are actually, directly, and unambiguously voicing said original outrage or concern over American Eagle’s alleged involvement in or endorsement of anything remotely connected to eugenics, thereby creating a situation wherein the meta-outrage—that is, the outrage about the outrage—has seemingly eclipsed the primary outrage itself, forming a surreal loop of discourse where the reaction to the reaction becomes more prominent than the inciting incident, which may or may not have even been widely observed in the first place.
Oh dear, a "Slavs aren't white" take.
I don't know about the Slavs, but tbf, the "white" race and the categorisation and conceptualisation of race itself has been arbitrary from the beginning. Not long ago, the Italians and Irish weren't considered white. Who goes where depends on the person making the categorisation. The English despised the Irish and Iberians, so both were lumped together as "Irish Iberian".
And "Jews aren't white" while we're at it.
yep. correct.
why , why would it be desired for slavs to be counted as white?
Nah, being spared the Mongol invasion was incidental at best. What really gave the Euros their kick-start was discovering a whole-ass continent filled with resources, and polities that did not have the capacity to resist the sudden introduction of Old World technology.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say with a self-administered grain of salt that colonialism didn't really matter that much to European development in the grand scheme of things. Really we're looking at the Renaissance and the beginnings of capitalism here. The only contemporary society that could've competed on both fronts was the formerly-Abbasid, formerly-proto-capitalist Middle East, but the Mongols heavily derailed that. I'm not sure how correct the post is in general, but it does bear thinking how the Renaissance would've went had Florence met a fate similar to Baghdad.
I'm a little tired right now and going to have a bit of a lay down, but I'd point out that Europe's increasing economic parity, and then slowly gaining economic superiority, over the rest of the world would have to be one hell of a coincidence to match up nearly perfectly with the discovery and exploitation of an entire continent's worth of resources. Vitally, the Americas provided Europe with trade goods (or the appropriate environment for growing them) that the rest of the world wanted - a recurring weakness of Europe in European history.

American Eagle probably doesn't make good jeans. They didn't 20 years ago last i went in that store. I don't see why saying someone has good genes is inherently racist though. That model from the ad is proportioned in a way that sells clothes or whatever. I don't see how it's different than saying a body builder that is symmetrical and well proportioned has good genes. No one thinks it's racist to say Ronnie Coleman has good genes (and no one doubts it. ) Or LeBron James (whose son is also a pro athlete.) If AA had used a brown model the controversy would be the same except replace racist with great replacement. Outrage drives engagement and that sells pants. American Eagle is working hand in glove with Trump to distract from the disastrous economy and sex traffiking.
The language used on the ad isn’t racist.
Using language that sounds just like racist eugenics being told to viewers by a beautiful blond haired, blue eyed woman is a little suspicious or tone deaf.
You mean to tell me the glorious Empire could have tamed the european savages and we could have had a more peaceful world instead of the mess we have now?
Multiple things can be true at the same time. No race, to the extent race even exists (literally only a social construct), is superior to any other, the Mongols didn't just destroy peoples/cultures (there was often a choice between self-rule + tax or war), and Mongol recurve bows likely wouldn't have weathered the coming storm seasons which would have eroded their glue (which they likely knew), which gave Eastern European nations the opportunity to build fortifications which were very effective against Mongol tactics and particularly popular in Hungary.
IMO the Mongols would have eventually adapted if they get into Vienna or in other major European cities. The Mongols under Genghis Khan also did not have siege equipment when they invaded the Jin dynasty. But after conquering the Jin, they acquired the Chinese engineers who built siege equipment for them.
I was confused about this etymology since I was a kid. I was taught there was one race - the human race - referring to the species. Oh well. Language gets misunderstood, learning it gets half-baked, it's misused and finally transformed over time. Whether it's wrong or stupid is neither here nor there, I suppose.
Tapping a copy of "Guns, Germs, and Steel" on my knee, thoughtfully.
Notable how the industrial revolution spreading to the rest of the world has really leveled the playing field over the last century.
deterministic theorizing without peer reviewed does not a proof make.
I loved GGS, but only as good storytelling. Poor support for many main points, but it is a good template showing you don’t have to resort to racist tropes to explain the world. It may be shoddy scholarship, but I was raised Mormon and it runs circles around the books by Cleon Skousen they tried to get me to believe.
Ignoring that trash book.
One thing I read is that a major factor that drove western Europeans to be so dominant worldwide is that their North Atlantic ocean fishing vessel tradition resulted in them being faster and more capable than most other vessels in the world, initially proving superior to the typically Roman-esque rowing-focused designs of the Mediterranean.

And this doesn't apply to polynesia because...?
It was the exploitation of peoples that took them as only visitors, not conquerers at they thought of themselves. As hispaniola shown us and other places too. Might makes the right was justified for them, but not for the exploited.
Edit: whenever people thought of exploiting others and enslaving them, there only comes one time to do so, when overpowering and turmoil take over, as seen in america (the continent), india, africa, etc.
GGS is pop-sci. The author had a conclusion and worked backwards to justify it. It's not academically respected in the slightest.
i don't even like jeans, why would i care for superior ones
True, but give some cred to Aetius as well. If he had failed at the catalaunian plains, history might've looked very different. And pope Leo I. Whatever he said to Atilla, it must've been convincing.
Oh yeah Jewish people, known for being super lucky throughout history
Luckier then Palestinians tho 'eh?
Please don't conflate Israelis with Jewish people, or you'll prove their whole "everyone who says bad things about us actually just hates Jews" BS right.
africans were spared of the mongols as well, and yet...
For sub-Saharan Africans, their equivalent of the Mongols is either the Bantu or Europeans, or both.
After the slow drip feed expansion of the Bantus, but before the sudden colonisation of Europe, many African societies were doing well in their own right. Timbuktu was a literal gold mine and the centre of learning. There was also the Great Zimbabwe, the ruins of buildings so great and impressive that 19th century European archaeologists initially could not believe Africans built them. West Africa had been flourishing trading hubs for early European explorers and traders.
africans were spared of the mongols as well, and yet…
What exactly is being said here?
I always thought it was because the steppe ended in roughly where Hungary is today. Couldn't feed their horses or create a supply line deep into Europe proper. It was also too decentralized to just sack one or two cities and have the whole continent. Realistically, it was probably due to internal politics though. They couldn't manage an empire of that size without serious reform.
