Is this why the predictions have gotten outright stupid? Before I could even finish typing “what year was Rome invaded by the visigoths” I get back ”what year was Rome invaded by pesto pasta recipes” cause I was looking up dinner a minute before. Years ago the predictions seemed to make more sense depending on what you were currently typing, now it’s just trying to make wild guesses based on what you previously searched

The real problem is that search engines have been getting crappier and crappier every year. Google results are basically worthless at this point, all ads and sponsored content.

I don't like the "we compiled the entirety of human knowledge" thing. We didn't do that, we compiled parts of the public Internet. BIG difference.

That’s a stupid take. We’ve always had algorithms that show some results over others. This is just a different one. There is no it, there is no being or whatever behind it.

Using a predictive text tool instead of showing the Wikipedia summary is a downgrade.

As the AI confidently gives me the wrong information, which it stole from a forum, talking about an only vaguely related process. It's one thing to present info as "here, hope this helps" vs "here's what you asked for, this is the relevant sentence highlighted."
If I didn't know it was wrong, it could've set me down a path that wasted hours of my time. It's happened to colleagues, and they weren't wise enough to know better.
- I'm not debating the quality of LLM responses, or the ethics of using various pubic and private data for training it. I'm claiming:
  it's not alive and has no personal motivation
  we still have the library, nobody took it away, we can still browse it
- Don't invalidate your own argument by immediately resorting to namecalling.
